That story could have been interesting if they would ACTUALLY COVERED WHAT HE SAID THERE OR THE RESPONCES OF THE PEOPLE HE SPOKE TO.

in VT, the putative ‘socialist stronghold’, we have the most lax gun laws in the whole country. there is no such thing as a carry permit in VT. it is not mandated to register one’s guns. to carry a loaded, unregistered, concealed handgun… one must be 21, not a felon, and that’s it. that’s freedom. one can buy a revolver out of the newspaper classifieds. what does your state let you do?

Uh, Sparkie do you mean VT or Blacksburg… I’m a little confused?

A school spokesman denounced the visit in a statement Wednesday, saying it was “terribly offensive” that Thompson would set foot on campus

I think it was very offensive of the university spokesman to make that statement thus inferring that Thompson in some way was responsible for the school shooting.  But it certainly fits the mold of the typical anti-gun proponent who believe that gun dealers should be responsible for the actions of their customers.

As much as I endorse what he says, one thing that strikes me is the little issue of his look; when you’re trying to make a good impression, would it kill you to get a decent haircut and put on a nice shirt, and maybe even a tie?

On the other hand, the objectors to what he proposes are more or less assuming that criminals can be made to obey the law, or that the average student at Tech is a paddle holster away from going postal.

In which case, of course, that’s an excellent reason to close down VT permanently, but not to prohibit people from carrying on the campus.
