Ha! And here, all this time, I thought he was singing:
I married Janet Reno
I wish that I could die!

Wouldn’t that be awful? Yikes!

Best song line, ever.
Because murder is hilarious.
When young black men sing songs like that, Congress gets involved. But when Johnny Cash does it, everything’s a-ok.

Dave:
1. Being a well crafted line in a song deserves to be recognized, and this one is in line with the story of the song and was exceptionally well crafted.
2. To compare these song lyrics with the vile, bloody murderous lyrics in the songs of today is just stupid.

Of course. There’s a huge difference. Ice-T is a scary black person; when he sings about killing people, it’s “vile"” bloody” and “murderous”. When Johnny Cash--who is neither scary nor black--sings about killing people, it’s “well crafted.”

Personally I think Cash’s songs have more artistic merit than songs about capping cops and banging ‘ho’s, but then I’m really uncool.
But way to be a race-baiting jackass troll, Dave. You never fail to entertain.

Dave: To make this into a racial issue is bizzare, I think you need professional help. The songs of Ice-T don’t have a reference to killing someone, his songs are filled with murderous rage. Further, many artists at the time of this song were not making snuff songs, this was one line in a country song and once more, the admiration was because it was a well crafted line in a song, no one at the time, since or now endorse murder and Johnny Cash would not endorse it.
Geez, get to a psychiatrist ASAP you are mentally unbalanced to make an issue out of this.

I know I had it coming,
I know I can’t be free....
Not a completely anti-social message in that he points out you do the crime you do the time. (See Robert Blake.)

This is my daughter’s favorite song ever, by the way. She knows every word by heart, and sang it at my best friend’s wedding.

She’s 6, and I couldn’t be prouder.
