My brother and I went through years of FAFSA forms so that we might be considered for merit-based awards. I don’t think we gained a damm thing from it.

Gotta say just like everything else that the government has there hand in they make it way more difficult than it has to be for the money. After my first year in college I found a ton of unclaimed money. I can not count the amount of grants that I received because Iwas the only one that applied for them.

You fail to understand that student aid isn’t a handout, it’s an investment---and a pretty damn good one at that.
Pretend for a second that you are the comptroller of a state. You want as many college grads in your state as you can get. College grads tend to make more money and won more property, thereby paying more into the system in the form of taxes.
They also tend to take less out of the system in the form of services. They tend to have their own insurance, they tend to be employed, and they tend not to go to jail.
When the state invests in low-interest loans and grants, that investment pays off for decades.

Gotta say (shocker) Don you are missing it.
They are not saying less people are going to college or even graduating, I think if we checked both of these are up. They are saying that they are not taking advantage of the government money, which is because it (in my opinion) to much of a pain in the ass.

You’ve missed the point as well, dick. The Bush regime (like the Clinton regime before it) has both reduced the amount of money available and increased the difficulty in applying.

Gee sounds kind of like what I just posted

People who earn their way generally have more pride in themselves and tend to study harder since it is their own money. People getting handouts generally waste the other people’s time and money.
The Truth: I walked on a campus to attend an inservice a few years ago. This was a college/university that has a history of a high percentage of "entitlement" students. I was asked about three times in 1/2 mile for 10 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, etc. I looked and saw people sitting in windows, generally "paryting" and not studying.
At another university, most of the students attended classes, studied and in general completed their degrees in four years. In the latter case, most paid for their educations and didn’t go for the "free rides".
Integrity vs irresponsibility and victimhood status.

I have to say that is BS. We have had three kids go through college and we filled out the FAFSA form each time. There was no difficulty filling out the form. In fact, the universities contacted us about what aid was available if we needed it.
The problem comes in when we tell every single kid that he should be in college. You take a pool of money and divide it more ways and it looks like there is less money.

I like that "we" took more than one of ya.
Even the schools admit that there is an issue which is why they have people helping, I know it so they will get their money...Damn straight.
