Michael Jackson Poll Results

Here are the results from this last week's poll: Is Michael Jackson Guilty?

Seventy-nine people (59%) said that Michael Jackson is guilty. Twenty-eight people (21%) said that he is not. Another twenty-eight people (21%) said that they were not sure if he is guilty or not. There were 135 total votes.

These results are interesting, but the results are close to what I thought they'd be. Most people have decided that Michael Jackson is guilty based on a knee-jerk reaction to the media storm surrounding his arrest. These people have formed an opinion on the matter before any real evidence has been revealed. You can add into that group the twenty-eight people who voted that he is not guilty. They have tried Michael Jackson in their minds and come out with a verdict before he has even had his day in court.

The people with the right frame of mind are the ones who voted "Not sure" on the poll. While its probably ok for most of us to form an opinion in situations like this, we need to remember that our legal system is based on the foundation of "Innocent until proven guilty." Too often we see a rush to judgment in these celebrity trials and its a trend we need to be very weary of. In this situation, Michael Jackson has already had one private conversation with his attorney recorded and the Sheriff's office may have been tapped by wireless microphones.

Michael Jackson may be a weirdo and he has certainly not done a lot to make himself look innocent, but he's still entitled to his right to an attorney and a fair trial.

Be sure to vote on this week's poll question: Should the legal drinking age be lowered or abolished?
