Kerry gets shut down by a group of Marines at a Wendy's (via Blogs for Bush).

AFP - Earlier, their bus convoy pulled over at a Wendy's fast food restaurant for a photo opportunity lunch that provided an awkward moment.

Spotting a group of US Marines, Kerry, who has made his Vietnam War service a cornerstone of his campaign, went over to chat. The Marines, who all turned out to be staunch Bush reporters(sic), were not impressed.

"He imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here shaking our hands," one of them told reporters afterwards. "I'm 100 percent against" Kerry, he said. "We support our commander-in-chief 100 percent."

Honestly, this could probably happen to any candidate. You approach a group of constituents hoping to chat them up in front of the press to show how you're an every-day-guy and they turn out to be staunch supporters of your opponent. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened to Bush a time or two.

But I do think this takes some of the wind out of the Democrat's portrayal of our soldiers as reluctant heroes fighting a war they never wanted to be a part of. Most of our military (according to most polls) support our President and the mission in Iraq. There are exceptions, of course, but Bush is the military's candidate despite Kerry's combat service in Vietnam.
