Zogby: Obama Lead Drops 5 Points, Reuters: John McCain Is Really Old

Just another entry in the confusing mess of pre-election polls:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democrat Barack Obama’s lead over Republican rival John McCain has dropped to 5 points, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Sunday.
Obama leads McCain by 49 percent to 44 percent among likely U.S. voters in the daily tracking poll, which has a margin of error of 2.9 points. Obama’s lead has dropped over the last three days after hitting a high of 12 points on Thursday.
“Things are trending back for McCain. His numbers are rising and Obama’s are dropping on a daily basis. There seems to be a direct correlation between this and McCain talking about the economy,” pollster John Zogby said.

What is perhaps more interesting than the results of yet another national political poll, though, is Reuters’ bizarre decision to put the ages of the candidates in the article:

Obama, 47, took the lead in most national polls in recent weeks as the financial crisis and plunging stock market seized center stage ahead of the November 4 election.
McCain, 72, appeared slow to respond to Obama’s financial message but in recent days has ramped up the economic themes of his own campaign. On Saturday the Arizona Republican warned voters of the dangers of what he termed a Democratic take-over in both the White House and Congress.

Not that McCain’s age difference over Obama is any big secret, but I can’t figure out why Reuters reporter Andrew Quinn decided to include it in the article. Nothing in the article relates to the age of the candidates.
I mean, we get it. McCain is old. Way older than Obama.
So what?

I saw a video on another blog, can’t remember which one, maybe LGF. It was a guy that was I think 72 playing basketball with a bunch of young bucks. I will try to find the link, it’s good.

Generally speaking, age and treachery beats youth and exuberance……

I’d rather have an old warrior than a young Kommie…..

    True, Eddie,

But there is a big difference in those 25 yrs. Some good, experience, tried under fire, and knows the job well. In Obama’s case being younger he will have more energy, be seen as more virile. I personally have to go for old tried and true, but can see how the youth thing is appealing to some.

    Obama’s almost fifty.

A lot of people fail to recognize that…

  • Jerry

If 72 years old means you can’t make a difference, there’s a lot of people who aught to just “Give Up” Now..

With what’s happening in the current economy, I would seriously like a President who would “Please“, “CONTROL THE FRIGGIN SPENDING”!!
McCain’s “Record” of no earmarks seems to indicate, he has the best chance of this.

  • PoJo

H;ey! So McCain is “old”…so am I, and I’m not “getting OLDER, just getting “BETTER”! So, “old” is GOOD!

  • Neiman

What’s Black & White and Red all over?

    answer: Obama

Now that is funny and true!

In nearly every culture but ours, those who have advanced years are revered. It is understood that with age comes wisdom and experience. Obama’s youth is a mark against him in my mind. Although, he is old enough to know better. Willful ignorance?
