Yeah, Yeah, ‘Grim Milestone’, We Get It Already

Sheesh.

I hate to be flip about this topic, but I am addressing the way the press handles
it more than the actual tragedy of losing our four thousandth brave volunteer
in Iraq. I had to create a jpeg here to show in graphic detail how unimaginative
and welded to their narrative the press is
when it comes to Iraq. Mentioning
the overused and tired phrase ‘grim milestone’ not once, but three times
within the headline and first two grafs of the story?

Oops! When I created the jpeg I missed those fourth and fifth grim milestones up
at the right under that video.

I’d say this is almost Onion-like as a self-parody of what our press has devolved
into. Except it isn’t the least bit funny.

Given the utter predictability of such headlines, one must ask how they qualify as “news”?

Oh, and you’re two hours behind me on this…

It is a grim milestone. We must change course so that there are no future grim milestones like this grim milestone. I have the audacity to hope that we can have change. We MUST change, so that no more grim milestones will be grimly reached. And to avoid being grim we must have hope. Hope to keep from being hopeless. Because the hopeless are grim, and to the grim every day is a grim milestone. Given the grimness of the grim, it is undeniable that some would be compelled to say “God damn America.”

I’m Barack Obama. I have approved this message. And anyone who disagrees with me is a filthy racist.

Nice touch, the guy walking among the tombstones at Arlington National Cemetary, don’t you think? Especially since MOST OF THOSE ARE UNDOUBTEDLY FROM PAST WARS AND HAVE VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH THE PRESENT ISSUE.

    Yeesh.

Can they be any more transparent?
