Willie Goes Brokeback Mountain

Willie Nelson just released a song about gay cowboys exclusively on iTunes. It is called “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly (Fond Of Each Other).”
You can’t get it anywhere but on iTunes – it is some sort of exclusive release – but I downloaded it and cut out an excerpt.

I’m kinda not sure what to make of it. It certainly isn’t the sort of thing I expected from Willie Nelson. I mean, he’s always been something of an outlaw with the pot smoking and what not, but a gay cowboy song?
Weird.

    Somehow I don’t think this will resonate with the traditional country audience. But what do I know? Country music makes me want to pull my brain out through my nostrils.

    I wonder if Willie is for real as someone upthread mentioned. It sounds to have a "touch" of sarcasam to it. The song was written 20 yrs ago, but as someone mentioned, what an opportune time to release it……

    Opportune time for a has-been to try to capitalize on something going on in the media today.  Willie needs to focus on paying those tax bills.

    Its not that bad of a song.  I love Willie Nelson (though not much of modern country).  I was just surprised to hear it from him.
