Will North Dakota Democrats Call Labor Union Ads “Out Of State Hatchet Jobs” Too?

The folks at Common Sense North Dakota have been flooding the state’s radio airwaves with this ad critical of Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad for taking money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac:

This prompted the North Dakota Democrat party to scramble to the defense of our two liberal Senators with a radio ad of their own condemning the “out of state” Common Sense North Dakota people as airing a “hatchet job.” We’re told by the Democrats to tell the Common Sense people that this “isn’t the way we do politics in North Dakota.”

Of course, the outrage from the Democrats at someone daring to criticize Conrad or Dorgan is a bit…contrived given that the state Democrat party itself gets about 80% of its funding from out of state contributors. And that Conrad and Dorgan themselves routinely have contribution totals that consist of 90 – 95% out of state contributors.
Anyway, here’s a test for North Dakota’s Democrats who are apparently so committed to keeping the state’s political landscape clear of the nefarious influences of out of state interests: LIUNA, a construction industry union, is going to be running some ads asking Senator Kent Conrad not to support the taxing of health care benefits. Or, at least, not to support the taxing of union health care benefits.
Will North Dakota’s Democrats condemn this labor union as a mustache-twirling out of stater with no business running political ads in this state? Or is it ok when liberals do it?

i get tickled when i hear these ads hatin’ on out of state money from the liberals. if the pubs have any brains theyd use this liberal ad verbatim in the next election against them.

I think I heard somewhere thet t least one of the drafts of the health care bill had a clause that exempted union employees from taxes on employer provided health care insurance. If so, it will be easy for Conrad to say that he will support the union’s request.

djer – are you saying that Common Sense ND doesn’t have members from ND. If they do, then the DEMS are wrong criticizing the ad. Based on your rhetoric, its OK for the unions to use out of state funds because they have union members in ND, but its not OK for Common Sense ND to use out of state funds even though they have people from ND who participate in their funding. What a hypocritical remark from a LIBERAL. But I’m not surprised at all, Dems think they can do/say what they want and not have to answer for their hypocricsy.

No, you are all wrong. There is no cowtowing! As the letter I received from Senator Conrad the other day stated, and I quote:

Finally, you asked me to represent the views of North Dakotans in the U.S. Senate. You may be assured that my priority in the U.S. Senate has always been to fairly represent the people who elected me and to fight for the needs of the people of North Dakota. My dedication to the people of North Dakota is firm and absolute, as is my independence. I do not hesitate to support legislation and policies that will benefit our families, farmers, small businesses, and veterans, regardless of whether that legislation is proposed by a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent

    No worries mates!

I am sick and tired of the Cow Towing to the Unions, this is utter bullshit.

All the better if they ask for a special deal for union members only. Thatll stir the pot for the stooges even more.

You probably heard that here on SAB. I linked to my previous post about it in the text above.
