Will Heidi Heitkamp And Pam Gulleson Flip Flop On The Bush Tax Cuts?

Both Heidi Heitkamp and Pam Gulleson, the North Dakota Democrat candidates for US Senate and US House respectively, want to end the Bush tax cuts for all the usual reasons. They claim the tax cuts are “for the rich” and that they create budget deficits, etc., etc.

But nationally Democrat attitudes about the tax cuts are changing. Former President Bill Clinton (who spoke at the convention where both Gulleson and Heitkamp were endorsed) has come out in favor of extending the Bush tax cuts, noting that ending them would hurt the economy. Even a DNC spokesman has admitted that the Bush tax cuts weren’t just for the rich, and that they should be extended.

Will Heitkamp and Gulleson really try to run to the left of both Bill Clinton and their national party on tax cuts? Or is a tax policy flip-flop in the offing?
