Why It’s A Joy To Live In North Dakota

You don’t hear about stuff like this anywhere else (from the Bismarck Tribune’s quotes feature):

“I want to continue having the honor system so we have it open 24 hours a day. It’s not a money-making business. This is a community gathering space. It’s not about the money.”

- Albert “Buzz"Olson, of Sentinel Butte, owner of the town’s service station. Olson is ready to retire, turning over the business to son Rick. During the hours the station is not open, locals get gasoline on the honor system, using one of the approximately 80 keys to the pumps held by people in the community. Folks write down the dollar amount of how much gas they’ve pumped and can make payment through a slot by the station door.

Of course, you gotta worry about a guy who doesn’t think running a gas station is at least somewhat about the money.

That’s pretty sweet.

Why should we have less abortions if it’s not really killing someone?

It’s Sentinel Butte. It’s a nice place to gas up, that’s about it.

I love this place!  Stories like that are like taking a big breath of fresh air.  It’s nice to know that we live in a place where people will still trust each other…and have reasons for that trust, too.
