The wacky and increasingly mainstream left believes that it is all a government conspiracy to keep us fearful and therefore controllable. Somehow they miss the hundreds of thousands of radicalized Muslims who chant for our deaths in any number of marches. The Muslims are screaming to be heard and the left can only go “duh,..it’s Bush/Blair/Cheney/the government trying to scare us”.

The Left believes terrorism to be overblown because it explodes their most cherished belief, cultural relativism.  In the eyes of the Left all cultures are equal and all cultures want peace.  The thought that AQ and the Salafists really do want to reestablish the Ummah on their terms simply cannot be comprehended by a bunch who believe all we have to do to “end terrorism” is throw Israel to the wolves.

The Left believes that their cultural relativism will be respected and rewarded by any and all cultures.  The fact that Salafism considers their relativism a sign of weakness that makes the West easier to kill just doesn’t register.  Their brains cannot grok the fact that the answer to “Why do they hate us?” isn’t found in any Western actions, but instead in the cold-blooded murderous mentality of the Salafists.

‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend’ explains a lot of strange alliances.  The 7th century barbarians are fighting back against GWB’s war machine and thus they fully support them.  Chavez publically calls bush a sulfur smelling devil and they fully support him.  Iran holds it’s ground to get peaceful nuclear electricity and they fully support that regime.  The barbarians launch missiles at the Israelly public (which is supported by Bush), thus they fully support Hamas/fatah/hezbollah.  Anybody who publically critisizes Bush will get the full support of the left.  The country-music hating elites suddenly dig the Dixie Chicks?  See the pattern?

I cant say if as a whole, the libs believe islamic terrorism is a threat.  They do however, believe the biggest current threat to the country is Bush/Cheney/Rove and that takes top priority.  I also honestly believe that the left thinks the barbarians will stop attacking the west when soft and cuddly Hillary is in power.  It will be one big group hug in 1/21/09.

Everyone with a brain knows he is full of shite. Secondly, the Left, if they did in fact exist, would be opposed to cultural relativism, which, I suppose, is what Captain Ned is trying to say. So I’m not allowed to refer to the generic demographic of people who share liberal ideals as “the left,” but you’re allowed to make a sweeping indictment of “conservatives” for making sweeping generalizations of “the left.”

I think the “liberal self loathing” angle is relevant, given the left’s (GENERALIZATION!!!!) propensity to blame America first for just about all the problems in the world.

By the way, I know the use of Homer Simpson’s pronunciation of “Jesus” is meant as a jab at me, but it’s not really working because I’m an atheist.  Not that you’d make a sweeping assumption about all Republicans being Christian or anything.

If the left is downplaying the terrorist threat, maybe its because they aren’t scared of them? Maybe too many conservatives types are just too easily frightened? Could that be the case? Who said give me freedom or give me death? Maybe conservatives should live by that quote, and stop being so scared.

Brian, to be simple, the left are communists.  These are the same people who sat around in coffeehouses in NYC in the 1920-30’s and went along with FDR’s “new deal” because they were too lazy to work.  They are the same people who helped Walter Duranty lie about the Ukranian genocide in the 1930s.  Read some of it here.  The left want to see the USA defeated so they can take over after anarchy.
