Why Does The Left Want To Lower Gas Prices?

Has anyone else noticed how absurd it is that the Democrats want to try and lower gas prices? They’re pushing all sorts of legislation with the stated purpose of keeping gas prices low, and yet what most liberals on the left want is for America to use something other than fossil fuels to power our vehicles.
What level of economic illiteracy must one aspire to in order to not understand that making a commodity like gasoline cheaper is the surest way in the world to make people use more of it? If the liberals do succeed in making gas cheaper (bloody unlikely if you ask me) it’ll have the effect of people buying more SUV’s and driving more. Because for the average citizen, the price of gas (and not environmental considerations) is what drives choices about what vehicle to buy and how much to drive.
If the liberals really wanted us to stop using gasoline they’d do everything in their power to make gas more expensive. Which is probably their real agenda even if they say otherwise, because “we’ll make your gas more expensive” is a pretty hard sell to the public. But it’s true. Rising gas prices is the surest way to get people to stop using so much gas, and start considering alternate sources.
So much for liberals being more…intellectual…than conservatives.

Prices will always rise without competition. That is one reason why gas prices are so high.

A company making $ 39 billion ($39,000,000,000.00) a year has some profit to give up in a competitive market. The oil companies are making billions of dollars.

If American’s want lower gas prices then we will have to organize and restart the competition between the Oil Companies.

To get a picture of the liberal mindset, consider that liberals in New York City have yet to repeal Korean War era rent controls that have led to sky-high rents AND something like 29000 vacant buildings owned by the city. The nuances of supply and demand don’t seem to apply on their planet, where the sun must be green.

Let us think like Liberals for a moment, even though that is dangerous to our mental health. Be proactive and get gas prices down, as you suggest, more people then go out and buy gas guzzling SUV’s and they travel, travel, travel. Then let us say, God forbid the very thought, we get a Democrat Party President with a Democrat controlled Congress in 2008, pull out the rug on whatever they did to help lower gas prices, increase taxes on all petroluem products for let’s say – National Health Care; and those SUV owners will all be running like scalded dogs to get liberal endorsed hybrids just to be able to afford to get to work.

Then old Al Gore and his ilk add their environmental Nazi style policies to save the environment, which demands even less use of gas and bingo bango they got us riding bikes and the bus to and from work. Which, is the goal Algore expressed in his book – to get us out of our cars. Is that making the old Democrats appear too Machiavellian?

It wasn’t that many years ago that the liberals were demanding that gas taxes be increased to bring the price of our gasoline “more in line with Europe”.
