Not to defend Obama, and at the risk of showing may age and being a real kill-joy, may I say the following? If the reporters are what they purport to be--professionals in their chosen profession--perhaps Obama is of the opinion they should be in appropriate attire for their work. Like it or not, respect is not only earned, it is often a result of a first impression--an impression that may be hard to undo if it is negative.

Not to defend Obama, but I’m assuming that he’s not meeting in Hippie Country of Israel and actually visiting either embassies or the really hardcore places (the Wailing Wall). Hippie Country, Israel does indeed exist, and the ladies probably served long enough (mandatory draft of a few years) to earn it.

Actually, that picture is of a “Love Parade” in Tel Aviv--if you don’t know what that means, look it up.  It doesn’t speak to everyday life there.

Reality is that although the vast majority of Israelis, I’m told, are irreligious and can tend to do some immodest things, there is also a vocal minority of Orthodox and ultra-orthodox who WOULD be offended if Obama’s entourage showed undue skin.  So the campaign is not that off base here, IMO.

Y’all have missed the most obvious reason for Obama’s commandment about female dress… Michelle!

If Mrs. Barack Obama catches him looking at some scantily attired young female, black or white, or even hears about it, his skinny ass is toast!

How do you know those women are actually Israelis?  I didn’t read the post yet, but knowing Poof, I doubt it specified.  I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Just read the post, and there in deed was no proof that the girls Poof posted were in fact Israelis.  They could have been Americans, in Israel.

Hannitized, you seriously need to read more.  The mayor of Jerusalem is an “out” homosexual, and two of the world’s biggest “love parades” bear witness that a large portion of that nation is not Orthodox in the least.  While I tend to agree with Obama’s request for female reporters in light of the Orthodox, our host is correct to note that large proportions of Israelis are most emphatically not.

I don’t doubt that women dress more conservatively in the “respectable” parts of Israel, but I’m sure the female reporters of Obama’s entourage don’t need a dress code for that being old hands at attending those sorts of places.

Remember that Obama’s dress code warned them not to wear open-toed shoes and to wear stockings.  Israel’s population, as we’ve pointed out here, is simply not that strict.
