Why Aren’t Republicans Challenging Obama’s Treasury Nominee?

The American Spectator notes that Senate Republicans don’t seem to be willing to challenge Obama’s tax-evading Treasury Secretary pick Timothy Geithner.
Which is absolutely baffling.
As far as I’m concerned, this isn’t even a partisan issue. If Geithner mismanaged his personal finances so throughly that he wasn’t aware that he had failed to pay tens of thousands in taxes then he is clearly unfit to sit at the head of the government agency that oversees the IRS.
If he was aware that he owed tens of thousands in taxes and didn’t pay them then he’s a criminal and a hypocrite and is unfit to sit at the head of the government agency that oversees the IRS.
Either way, Geithner shouldn’t be appointed. And if he is appointed it’s an absolute travesty. And if Republicans allow him to be appointed without even putting up a fight, well then shame on them.
Americans who avoid paying tens of thousands of dollars in taxes are usually fined. Their property is seized. And sometimes they’re even put in jail. They most certainly aren’t given a cushy promotion.
