Whoops: Obama Forgets Who Controlled Congress In 2007 And 2008
But who can blame him? Blaming everything bad that’s happening now on President Bush and the past Republican majority is Obama’s only lifeline amidst the stormy seas of debt and deficit he’s now created. That Democrats have controlled Congres since the 2006 mid-terms is an inconvenient truth.
“I want to be very clear,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address to the nation. “I will not sign on to any health plan that adds to our deficits over the next decade. And by helping improve quality and efficiency, the reforms we make will help bring our deficits under control in the long term.”...
“The same folks who controlled the White House and Congress for the past eight years as we ran up record deficits will argue — believe it or not — that health reform will lead to record deficits,” Mr. Obama said. “That’s simply not true.”
I don’t know what to laugh at harder. Obama forgetting that it was his own party, including himself who was serving in the Senate at the time, who oversaw deficits over the “record deficits” he’s talking about in Congress or that the New York Times didn’t correct Obama on that point in their reporting.
