Who Is Obama’s VP Pick?  The Secret Service Says It’s Biden

There’s only one thing this can mean:

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.

Sources also tell ABC News that two others said to be finalists for the position of Obama’s running mate—Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine—have been told they have not been selected for the vice presidential slot.

Personally, I think Biden is about the worst possible pick for Obama.  Does he shore up some of the questions about Obama’s experience?  Particularly in the area of foreign policy?  Absolutely.  But he’s also worse than Obama when it comes to foot-in-the-mouth disease (remember when he was describing Obama as the first “articulate” and, um, “clean” black Presidential candidate?

And let’s not forget that Biden already has a litany of soundbites out there both very, very critical of Obama and complimentary of McCain.

Having Biden on the Obama campaign for the next couple of months will be a boon for conservative pundits, but not much of one for Obama.

I’m calling this decision “The Messiah’s gift to Rush Limbaugh.”

Update: Ambinder confirms: It’s Biden.

This is gonna be fun.
