Whittington Issues A Statement

Harry Whittington, the man shot by Dick Cheney in Texas last weekend, has given a statement to the press.
Here’s an excerpt:

My family and I are deeply sorry for all that vice president Cheney has had to go through this past week. We send our love and respect to them as they deal with situations that are much more serious than what we’ve had this week. And we hope that he will continue to come to Texas and seek the relaxation that he deserves.

Let’s hope the media gets that “much more serious” part.
Video at the link. He looks good for having got shot in the face.

Mr. Whittington really does seem to be a good guy… He is more concerned with the Vice Pres. than himself which is rare!

You don’t know the difference between the active voice and the passive voice?

"…the man shot by Dick Cheney last weekend" = passive voice, limp-wristed, girly

"Dick Cheney shot a man last weekend!" = active voice, aggressive!, manly

You happy now Mr. English major?

Be nice to dave… He always has an interesting take!

How is "…the man shot by Dick Cheney last weekend" in any way shape or form a passive statement?

Dave: Try this for comparative coverage:

BTW:  "Mistakes were made…" was the mantra of the Clinton administration.  The Vice President admitted what he did, unlike the previous admin.

  • robert108

Dave: So you agree with me that the Clinton Administration was a bunch of kids trying to play grownup with our country for eight years.

Dick Cheney said: "I was the one who pulled the trigger.  I shot my friend."  Hardly the passive voice.  BTW, who is Sydney Harris, and why should I give a cr*p about his opinion on anything? What did he mean by "We"?  Did he have a mouse in his pocket?

  • robert108

Rob: It’s just the usual nit-picking.  Nit-picking is what people do when they have no substantive argument.

  • Dave

"We have not passed that subtle line between childhood and adulthood until we move from the passive voice to the active voice — that is, until we stop saying ‘It got lost,’ and say ‘I lost it.’" -Sydney Harris

Harry Whittington, the man shot by Dick Cheney in Texas last weekend…

Don’t ya’ just love the passive voice?

  • Eneils Bailey

I saw Mr. Whittington’s statement on TV. The man appears to be true gentleman, showing more class in five minutes than the complete  Washington press corps could muster the rest of the year.

  • Dave

"Mistakes were made, people were fired, puppies were drowned, babies were eaten…"

  • Dave

I may not know the difference between passive and aggressive voices, but at least I’m not a pretentious prick.

    You’re welcome, don’t mention it.

    Sigh…

Maybe I’m stupid, but I’m not getting it.  You’ve proved that you’re the smart one, now what’s your point?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Oh come off it.  If your intent was really to help you’d have explained what you were talking about in the first comment.

    What’s your point Dave?

How is "…the man shot by Dick Cheney last weekend" in any way shape or form a passive statement?  Dick Cheney did shoot a man last weekend.

I thought I was being rather blunt about it.
