White House: We Have Victory In Iraq

After five years of “mission accomplished” nonsense from the left (it never meant what they want you think it did, but the truth has now been lost in a mountain of partisan rhetoric) this is probably as close as we’re ever going to get to a declaration of victory in Iraq from a person in a position of power.
But I’ll take it, because there is no doubt that we have won. The terrorists are defeated. The Iraqis are in control of their own destiny. Outside of a few details that are yet to be hammered out, the mission is completed. The truly sad part is that we’ll never have a true “moment of victory” in Iraq. It won’t be because we didn’t actually win (which is what the left will claim) but because the powers that be on the left and in the media prematurely declared a loss, and they don’t want to look stupid.

I predicted way way back in 2003 that Bush would declare vistory in the last quarter of 2008. But I was off by a couple of months. I thought he would do it a few week before the election instead of a few weeks after.

I think Republican should be saying we won. We did.

The arbitrary withdrawal date was attempted by the left declared our defeat and surrender while promising to motivate progress on the political front. Well, the surge worked and the Iraqi people control their own political destiny, our troops come home victors, and the necessary progress on the political front is being made. What a sad day to be a liberal, especially a liberal American.

We'll never be entirely safe from terrorists, but the goal in Iraq was never to eliminate all of the terrorists. It was to establish a stable representative government that coudl take care of itself.
