White House Communications Director: We Controlled The Media During The Campaign

White House Communications Director and noted Maoist Anita Dunn bragged during an interview with the Dominican government that during the campaign that the Obama campaign controlled the media by refusing to give interviews and instead relying on recorded messages that forced reporters to cover what they wanted instead of asking questions.
Hope and change:

TEL AVIV – President Obama’s presidential campaign focused on “making” the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was “controlled,” White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference.
“Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control,” said Dunn.
“One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters,” said Dunn, referring to Plouffe, who was Obama’s chief campaign manager.
“We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it,” Dunn said.

Here’s the video:

Obviously, all political campaigns seek to control the message. But actively bragging about this sort of manipulation of the media, to explain that you intended to freeze the journalists and their questions out, is hardly becoming of the campaign of an elected leader of a representative government.
Anita Dunn apparently wants applause for her innovative manipulation of the media, but as far as I’m concerned she deserves criticism. After all, our leaders should be forthcoming and transparent with the public no? Especially when the leader in question campaigned on being a “new politics”, “hope and change” candidate.

And still not one single “journalist” has voiced any concern about this. Not. One.

  • robert108

Nope! The MSM tailored their coverage to favor McCain and to minimize the other candidates, especially the more conservative ones.
I know you like to attack Republicans, Rob, but McCain was foisted on us by the MSM.

  • sayanything-106

That woman is a moron and a disgrace, they are so arogant and cocky that they are now openly admiting what many of us thought in the first place.

When reached for comment, several reporters for MSM outlets had the same reply:

    “Baaaa.”

  • sayanything-13784

Dunn is one creepy communist. The video of her giving the speech to the high school kids, praising Mao, makes me sick. She keeps sticking her tongue out. creepy

  • sayanything-2

Algore and Willie Jeff both told us that Saddam had all kinds of nasty WMDs, that is how they justified the No Fly Zones that covered over 1/2 of Iraq for all those years. Were they lying? Was the UN lying? Hello? McFly?!?! Anybody home?!?!?!?

And what about the 100s of thousands of binary artillery shells, 100s of thousands of binary rocket warheads? The thousands of aerial dispensing munitions? The millions of pounds of chemical components and handling equipment? The thousands of tons of yellow cake uranium?

Come on, dinothefakehomo, tell us how none of that matters. Spin&lie for us some more.

Media assassin, Katie Couric, stabbed the Alaskan wonder mom in the back.
    Newspapers, newspapers???
What hope do conservatives have facing such diabolical adversaries.

“You mean like when they lied about WMD`s to start their war.” Sure dumbo, and i`m certain that you`re including all those top Dems that were also sure about those WMD`s

  • robert108

I don’t think any “subjugation” is involved; it’s commonality of purpose. The MSM has wanted to defeat American values since the Vietnam War, at least. Now, they have a President who fits their template perfectly.

  • robert108

Of course they did! It was obvious to many of us from the beginning that they manipulated McCain into being the Republican candidate, by how the covered the other candidates, like their non-coverage of Fred Thompson, for instance.

  • sayanything-4625

    Rob,

They couldn’t have done this without the help of the media. The media knew the score and played along. If the situation was reversed, they wouldn’t have played the game and complained hourly about the Republican candidate “dodging” the media.

  • sayanything-2

And not one single “journalist” has a problem with being controlled. That is really the point, actually journalism is dead, replaced by “journalism” put out by “journalists”. Nothing factual, nothing even vaquely related to facts. Just control.

  • sayanything-4124

The thing with the media being in bed with the govt, is it only lasts as long as the govt WANTS it to last, then they turn around and eat their young who so eager to support them and do their bidding.

That is not a Republican or Democrat thing, it is a stupidity and short sightedness of the media thing.

  • sayanything-48

This is AWESOME! Finally a little bit of transparency from the “completely transparent administration”. Good for them! The honesty is refreshing.

  • sayanything-3444

The more cynical among us might postulate that they did this not just to control the message, but to shield an incompetent from being asked questions that were “above his pay-grade”. Over the months (years) of the campaign and the subsequent nine months, he does seem to get a bit flummoxed when he’s off-script or the teleprompter is malfunctioning. The truly sad part is that the media just accepted being manipulated, like the good little Sheeple they’ve become.

When you combine this with their war on fox news it all becomes quite chilling.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

They couldn’t have done this without the help of the media

Excellent point. The Obama people wanted to subjugate the media, and the media was more than happy to play along for The One.

  • sayanything-4416

Well, I hope this finally gives you people a rationale for seeing Obama elected. IT WAS THE PRESS! IT WASN’T THAT YOUR PARTY FAILED AT GOVERNING!

So glad you could get some closure!

As for “leaders should be forthcoming and transparent with the public”: You mean like when they lied about WMDs to start their war?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

No, don’t blame the media for Republicans stupidly picking McCain. That’s our own fault.

  • sayanything-2361

They did hope and they did change and they are becoming more transparent about their intentions. “All your media outlets are belong to us.”
In the taking of power they are quite competent. I just wish they knew what they were doing in even the more trivial aspects of running a country.
