While Obama Shakes His Hand, Chavez’s Buddies In Iran Jail American Journalist

While Obama continues his international apologize-for-America tour, and cozies up to cruel dictators like Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan dictator’s brothers-in-arms in Iran have jailed an American journalist for eight years for “spying.”

TEHRAN Iran has sentenced an Iranian-American journalist, Roxana Saberi, to eight years in prison after convicting her of spying for the United States, her lawyer said Saturday.

But don’t worry folks. The Obama administration has already sprung to arms and is “vigorously” raising “concerns:”

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said she was “deeply disappointed” by what the State Department has called baseless charges against Ms. Saberi, and demanded her release.
“We will continue to vigorously raise our concerns to the Iranian government,” Mrs. Clinton said in a statement released Saturday.

Well then. I’m sure the Iranians will be reversing the wrongful arrest and imprisonment of Ms. Saberi any moment now under a barrage of vigorously raised concerns.

NPR said Saberi’s press credentials were withdrawn more than a year ago but said she had continued to file short news stories, which the Iranian government tolerated.

based on why she was originally there, id say she just learned everything she would need to know. the government is corrupt and chicks have zero rights…. of course she should have know that already.

Saberi, a former Miss North Dakota beauty queen whose mother is Japanese, originally went to Iran six years ago to complete a master’s degree on Iranian studies and international relations.

there are certain countries in this world where its not safe to be american and this is one of them. if you go there, you might get stuck. hell, i wouldnt even go to mexico right now. I hope they let her go, but people need to know that if youre stupid, you might get in trouble.

As for the woman, I hope that she’s not suffering for being an American. Also, those jails are hell-holes. I remember reading on a journalist in Iraq that got imprisoned for speaking out against Saddam. They threatened her with rape, torture, humiliated her (denying her sanitary pads), etc. She had the balls to stand up to them, and I hope this journalist does too.

The Obama administration is following the same steps – both public and behind closed doors – that all other administrations have used.

While Bush was not shaking Chavez’s hand, former FBI agent Robert Levinson disappeared in Iran, having been seen last on the island of Kish in March 2007.

So to sum it up, no matter who’s hand American presidents are shaking, Iran does what Iran want’s to do.

By the way, Obama didn’t order the navy to rescue that captain the pirates were holding hostage. It’s reported that he gave the navy the authority to act if they saw that his life was in imminent danger.

It seems to me that the navy had that authority in the absence of “orders” from the President. (Ie in a developing situation where there is no time to call in.)
