Where Are The Parents?

From Fox News:

The first act in what could become the most sensational celebrity court case ever concluded peacefully Thursday as pop superstar Michael Jackson was arrested, booked and then released on $3 million bail for multiple counts of child molestation.
The self-appointed King of Pop, who has made headlines in recent years more for strange behavior than for hit songs, then flew back to Las Vegas to finish filming a music video.
Jackson’s arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 9. Santa Barbara County authorities said they would file formal charges after Thanksgiving.
The pop singer’s well-known celebrity attorney, Mark Geragos, who is also representing accused double murderer Scott Peterson in another sensational case, denied the molestation allegations on behalf of his client.

Michael Jackson obviously has problems. I am not one to proclaim a person guilty before they’ve had their day in court, but there is just too much going on with this case for me to believe that he is innocent.
In 1993 we have a case where a young boy accused Michael Jackson of molesting him. Jackson and his lawyers settled with the family of that boy out of court for a substantial amount of money. The District Attorney at that time wanted to press charges against Jackson but California law at the time did not allow for the victim to be compelled to testify. Basically, Jackson bought his way out.
Now, a decade later, we have the same situation popping up. An adolescent is again accusing Jackson of molesting him or her. This time, however, the victim can be forced to testify. The parents of this latest child did visit with an attorney before going to the authorities, which doesn’t look very good for them. Now they are proclaiming that they do not want any money, but only justice through the court system. I’ll believe that when I see it, but that’s beside the point.
What I find most troubling about this whole situation is the parent’s apparent lack of concern over Jackson’s bizarre behavior. Look at Jackson’s face. I’m sorry, but anybody who can go from this to this has got some pretty serious issues. But even putting his strange behavior and appearance aside, shouldn’t the way he acts put some parents on guard?
In the original molestation case it was learned that Michael Jackson slept over that the victim’s house! This didn’t arouse any suspicions from the parents that Jackson might be looking for a little more than companionship? I know that the parents in these cases probably had money problems and that Jackson’s help was very welcome, but there are lines that can be drawn. You can accept Jackson’s help without letting your kid sleep with him.
I think the parents in this case, and the mother from 1993 (the father didn’t have custody of the boy during the alleged abuse but got custody afterwards), should be held responsible along with Jackson if he is found guilty.
