When Republicans Say Stupid Things

Here’s Alaska Rep. Don Young defending the just-indicted Alaska Senator Ted Stevens and suggesting that he be re-elected to the Senate:

“I think he can win. He’s the best thing for that, for the Senate. Alaskans know this.
“[...]I think that’s going to be, you know, a matter of opinion. I can remember Richard Nixon, you know, his years of service, what he’s done, and everybody were ridiculing him and he ended up being the greatest president in the history of our century.

Richard Nixon?
Rep. Young does remember that Richard Nixon resigned in disgrace and scandal, right? Or does his memory of history stop in about 1972?

    This is the same Don Young whose opponent in the primary was supported by Sarah Palin in an attempt to challenge the corrupt Alaska Republican establishment.

    Yes, global warming along with amnesty. I think both of those issues are crucial to the republic and McCain’s position on those are indistinguishable from Obama’s.

    Rabid American: The GOP hasn’t been co-opted by anyone. The GOP has always been a loosely knit coalition of moderates, fundamentalists, libertarians and conservatives – fiscal and social; each with their own principles and priorities.

    Our difficulties are always compounded at election time because – unlike the democrats – we spend as much time attacking each other as we do attacking the left.

    Ok Whistler, I agree with those things. Certainly not a fan of Gorebal Warming, or any reasoning which justifies anything but getting in line to immigrate..

    But. The baby ain’t going out with the bathwater with vote for Obama’s return to the Gulag..

    I’ve said it before… the GOP has been co-opted by the “Moderates” and RINOs….. This is just one of them showing his colors.

    It’s collusion by the far left Demo-Kommies and the RINO members of the GOP to encourage the weak-ass behavior exhibited by the GOP in general.

    You recognize the banter… “Peaceful politics”, “Avoid negativity”, etc., etc., etc…..

    Palin has surprised them by being the REAL Maverick in this race. We don’t like J.M.’s politics but we’ll drag him across the finish line to prevent “The Anointed One” from making the White House into a Kremlin clone……
