If in the highly uncertain event that Iraq somehow becomes an 11th hour success story, the Democratic Party may well be all but annihilated for the better portion of the next decade.
I don’t think anyone should be declaring Iraq a success now, or at any time in the future. But the point is that one major political party has been declaring Iraq a defeat for years now, despite a lot of reasons to be hopeful.
The Democrats don’t want victory in Iraq. They want full-scale defeat, because that’s what is best for them politically.
The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.
