What We’re Bailing Out: Citigroup Buys Spanish Highway Operator

Fresh off a big, fat federal bailout and while they’re busy lobbying Congress to rewrite bankruptcy laws so that they can get extra special treatment from bankruptcy judges Citigroup has been busy buying up companies over in Europe.
Your tax dollars hard at work.

MADRID, Spain — Spanish construction company Sacyr Vallehermoso said Monday it has agreed to sell its highway-operating unit, Itinere, to Citigroup in a deal valued at nearly 7.9 billion euros ($10 billion).
The sale involves 2.87 billion euros in cash and 5 billion euros in assumed debt, the company said.
Sacyr Vallehermoso has been hard hit by the collapse of Spain’s real estate bubble and is eager to ease its debt load.

Meanwhile, employees and business owners struggle with a slowing economy as the government keeps taxes high to fund bailouts that funnel money to corporate giants like…Citigroup.
Fair? Not even a little bit.

    What don’t you get?

dont look now, but youve been in control for two years with a liberal president.

    Dino,

I know dinosaurs had very small brains so I’ll sum up again. The Bush asked for a bailout, the Democrats could have said no! Then there would have been no bail out. They said yes, they are responsible also. Just like if I walk up to you and say lets shoot that guy over there, you say OK and I whip out my pistol and shoot him between the eyes. We will both be charged with murder. Go rabble rouse somewhere else, RAUS!

Sure, the republicans set the house on fire, leave the scene and you want the dems to let it burn down to make a point?

Of course you did. Then you could say “the dems let the house burn down.” Especially after your idiot president goes on TV to freak out the people.

In either of your scenarios, dems are the villian. When really, it’s the republicans who set the fire. It’s what makes them so despicable.

    What don’t you get?

I’m just surprised that these CHINOS would be following an atheist since they claim that atheists are trying to tear down our values.

This is the culmination of what conservatives have supported for years. Corportism. Worship of capitalists. Free markets.

    Don’t start whining now.

I hope Citi Group enjoys Unions. In Spain you cannot fire or lay off a permanent worker without an unbelievable amount of work and money. A permanent worker is one who has worked for your company for twelve months. I worked there a few years back and we fired a maintenance supervisor for non-performance (after all of the warnings, etc) and only had to pay him about $42,000 to get rid of him, for a $24,000/year position. That is one reason it takes forever to build anything, you can increase your staffing when you are busy and then reduce the staffing when it is slow. You build things slowly with your permanent employees.

  • sayanything-4625

No that’s not it at all. What really happened is that both the Dems and Republicans push the kid in the pool. Democrats get out a bunch of money and throw it at the kid knowing that it will make no difference to the kid. He is still drowning.

Your tax dollars hard at work.

well, bush and the libs wanted them to spend. what makes you think they spend it here?

where do you think the AIG money……. the total of which seems to get increased by the day….. went?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

    A better analogy would be:

Republicans push a child into the pool and walk away. The dems could say, no, we won’t jump in and save the kid.

That’s what the republicans want. That’s how they are.

Sorry about the typo, it should have said can’t below, not can as stated in the last comment.

Didn’t the bailouts pass the Democrat-controlled Congress?

This bailout was pushed by the Republican administration. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the crime. It is just a scam to benefit your deep pocket buddies and you know it.Atheist Right-tard.

The best part of him dripped down his mothers leg.

I see an ad for a dvd titled the God Who Wasn’t There. Sounds right up you alley, Atheist. Make sure you show it to all your right wing Christian conservative buddies.

Yup, and voted into law by a Democrat Congress.

    This is a bi-partisan screwing we’re getting.

It is just a scam to benefit your deep pocket buddies and you know it.Atheist Right-tard.

What’s sad is that while both Democrats and Republicans work to screw we taxpayers over, you’re too busy playing partisan games and pointing fingers to notice.

Ever hear the term “bread and circuses?” They’re the tools Roman dictators and emperors used to distract the Roman citizens from the fact that they’d become less “citizen” than “subject.” Well these partisan games you can’t see past are the modern equivalent of the circuses.

And the welfare and entitlements the big government types toss around are the bread.

Do you have a problem with my religions beliefs? Or, specifically, my lack of them?

    How oh-so-tolerant of you.
