What If The Anti-War Left Held A Protest And Nobody Came?

This is funny...or it would be were taxpayers not getting stuck with a bill for tens of thousands of dollars for nothing.

October 28, 2006 - Hundreds of police officers showed up to keep the peace at what was supposed to be an anti-war rally Saturday afternoon. Police are now calling it a waste of resources after the protesters did not show.

It’s a mix up that will cost tax payers tens of thousands of dollars. The anti-war demonstration at Washington Square was supposed to start at noon and the Chicago Police Department was ready. But the protesters were a no show, and police say it was a big waste of time and money.

They waited patiently on foot, on bike and in the streets. Hundreds of Chicago police officers were ready to make sure Saturday’s anti-war demonstration stayed peaceful. Their job was easier than expected—because no one showed up.

“We prepared a response to ensure that they would have a safe, orderly march, behind that and unfortunately what happens was this group cancelled their march without informing the Chicago Police Department,” said Deputy Superintendent Charles Williams, Chicago Police Department.

Anyone else thinking the moonbats who organized this protest should also foot the bill for all the cops who showed up for nothing?

In 1988, the Summer Olympics were in Seoul, South Korea.  At the time, Seoul was a hot bed of student political protests.  It followed a pattern.  The students announced a protest.  The media showed up.  The government sent troops.  The studetns rioted.  The troops clashed with the students.  The cameras recorded it all.  Indignity reigned and the cycle repeated itself.

The Korean government knew that they couldn’t afford to have these types of problems with the world’s athletes in country.  They decided on aradical course of action.  The students announced a protest.  The media showed up.  The troops stayed home.  When the students came charging out of their campus, they met no resistance.  They milled about lost for a few minutes then wnet back home.  After thsi happened a couple of times, the media quit coming.  Once that happened, the protests stopped.

The government had guessed right.  It was all about publicity and the fights with the troops got tha publicity.  With no cameras around, there was no reason to protest.  Righteous indignation will only take you so far.

This story is classic. smile

They were just hoping to beat some people up. Probably went to the pub first to get in the beating-up mood. Poor cops.

I’d suggest that not only should the protestors pay for the police time, they also ought to pay crime victims for what happened while police were diverted from their ordinary duties.  It’s not as if Chicago police have nothing to do but eat donuts.

Docdave: Yeah, basically no-one turns up to these things. Only the extremist Islamo-fascist apologists.

The biggest protests took place in Europe. The protest in Rome involved around 3 million people, and is listed in the 2004 Guinness Book of World Records as the largest anti-war rally in history.
...
[and New York]
On the day, over 300 buses and four special trains brought protesters in from across the country. 100,000 protesters (BBC estimate) took part in a rally near the UN building. Among those taking part in the demonstration was the 9/11 Families For Peaceful Tomorrows, a group made up of some relatives of victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Speakers included politicians, church leaders and entertainers, such as actress Susan Sarandon and South African Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu.[43]

As people tried to reach the rally area they ended up constituting an unplanned march, stretching twenty blocks down First Avenue and overflowing onto Second and Third Avenue.[35] In total there may have been 300,000 to 400,000 protesters (WSWS estimate).--Wikipedia (’cos I am to lazy to find real sources)

Yet the `liberal’ local media reported only a few thousand turned up. There were protests in 150 cities across the country. Just a `very tiny insignificant part’ really.

Having lost the last two elections in part because of national security issues, Democratic leaders have been reluctant to spell out their exact Iraq war funding strategy.

“I don’t think the Democratic leadership should put that out at the moment,” Woolsey said.

Like others have said the Dems have no platform other than any body but bush, they are more dishonest than the GOP candidates they hope to replace. The Dems offer no solutions to how to improve anythings other than to install massive tax increases on the rich. So where does the rich start 50,000, 100,000, 250,000?

I liken the Dems to Robyn Hood and its band of merry thiefs ready to pound and tax the $#it out of us if they get elected. Good bye econmy.
