Well It Is A Crime

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 27 (UPI) -- A Jacksonville, Fla., judge drew his handgun when an accused child molester was attacked by an alleged victim’s father in court.

“I didn’t know if he was going after me or the bailiffs or the defendant,” Circuit Judge John Merrett told The (Jacksonville, Fla.) Times-Union.

The father, who had not seen the defendant before the court appearance, hurdled a railing and landed several punches on the handcuffed and shackled man before bailiffs restored order.

Merrett said that once he saw the situation was under control, he handed his gun to the court clerk and asked her to lock it in a drawer. Merrett has a concealed weapon permit and said he’d do the same thing again, the newspaper reported.

But Duval County Public Defender Bill White said the incident was frightening. He plans to talk to the chief judge about whether judges should be armed in court.

“It’s very disconcerting for a lawyer to be in the line of fire,” White told the Times-Union.

The father was charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery.

Two things.  The father had no right to whoop up on the defendent who molested his daughter.  I think that the father must be punished and sentenced to a free meal at Red Lobster or another restaurant of his choice.***Correction--He should get free drinks too.  In fact next time he’s in Grand Forks have him look me up and I’m buying.***

The other thing is that the Public Defender needs to reclaim his testicles from the lockbox he keeps them in.

Heh, no chance that the publc defender is a gutless wimpy liberal.

Being liberal is never having to admit you’re wrong

Now come on, he hadn’t been convicted yet.  I can understand beating the **** out of the guy if he’d caught him in the act, but we do need the presumption of innocence.

This is especially so when one considers that certain crimes (e.g. spousal abuse) have horrendously high false reporting rates.

Now after the conviction, YOU BET the father ought to get the chance to beat the tar out of the guy.

(there was a case in Malaysia where a convicted rapist asked for more time in jail if he could be spared the cane--the judge thankfully did not oblige)

That father should be severely punished! He should be sentenced to at least a month of exile in the Bahamas.
