Washington Insiders Complaining That “Talk Radio” Is Running The Country

From Ace:

Mort Kondracke complained on Hume last night that talk radio had worked its evil to defeat the bill, largely by only telling people about “the bad parts” of the bill.
Ummm… if the MSM were not in the tank for the bill, would they not, themselves, have informed the public of all “the bad parts” of the bill? The loopholes, the giveaways, the tremendous costs, the utter lack of credibility of the government on its enforcement promises, the fact that only (at latest count) 15 miles of an already-authorized 850 mile fence had been constructed, the fact that the bill was silent as to what would be done with the illegal amnesties not eligible for amensty (and for some reason had not been able to forge the documents necessary to prove eligilibiity — remember, we can’t just deport them all!), etc., etc., etc.
So, talk radio told the public about all these “bad parts” of the bill. The public should have been appraised of the “bad parts” by the MSM, but weren’t.

My reaction to the idea that talk radio is “running America” is…so? And that’s not just because I’m a conservative and conservatives dominate talk radio.
The immigration bill was killed because Americans, thousands of them, jammed up the phone lines in DC expressing their displeasure over the bill. That’s citizens taking a stand on something they don’t like. For anyone to suggest that these Americans are just mindless automatons acting at the behest of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh is, well, insulting.
Our government is predicated upon the will of the people, and just because the will of the people isn’t the will of certain Washington insiders who wanted to see this bill pass doesn’t mean the people are morons. Or incapable of evaluating this bill and making a decision.
Like it or not, talk radio listeners and blog readers (groups that number in the millions) are part of the electorate, and their opinions are going to be heard.

No doubt the Senators were amazed at the outcry from the public about the Immigration bill. They tried to slip one past us and it did not fly–as evidenced by Teddy Kennedy’s out burst after the failure. My e-mails to Conrad/ Dorgan were acknowledged by Dorgan only–he did not say where he was on the issue, but he did answer.
May the Immigration bill/amnesty RIP. Build the fence. After the leakage stops we can talk about what to do with those who are here.

On the other hand, it would be fair to say that the talk radio personalities did not give this bill a fair or honest hearing. And that this in turn fed rampant cynicism over the bill, without in many case any fact checking or challenging of the radio hosts’ assertions.

The bill probably did have problems with it, but the large often irrationally based negativism displayed by the talk show hosts and their listeners has guaranteed that we will now have no action for at least two years.

Is that really a win here?

Was he referring to “Dakota Talk?”

Well, Karl Rove and Dick Cheney are running Bush. And The Illuminati run the whole thing. The Elders of Zion. Who are we missing here?

Funny, but if talk radio is sending my thoughts via secret satellites, perhaps I need a tin-foil hat so I can think for myself.

No, Americans are running the country, not talk radio. AND AMERICANS DID NOT LIKE THIS BILL. All talk radio did is encourage Americans to actually review the bill and respond to their elected representative. I thought that was what Representative Democracies were about, but apparently the only time we are allowed to make our voices heard and felt is in early November every other year.

And isn’t it ironic that if Conservative Talk Radio was running the country–we would have a Republican House and Senate, but funny, we don’t. Maybe the satellite signal isn’t getting through. The Elders of Zion might want to adjust the frequency.

Let me get this straight; the bad parts of the bill were not sufficient reason to kill it? Apparently the public is not entitled to have the “World’s premiere deliberative body” remove the “Baby Ruth bars” from the swimming pool.

Actually, Carrick, I think they did give it a fair hearing by pointing out that as bad as the loopholes are today, the proposed bill would have expanded them by orders of magnitude. And if Senators are too immature to try a little, non-comprehensive bill because their idiotic “comprehensive immigration deform bill” got shot down, they need to be replaced with those who are a little bit more like adults.

Based on their past performance, I’d have to say yes.

I think it’s a win as my belief is that the bill would have made things worse.

Better the devil we know, right?
