Video: Heitkamp Flip-Flops On Obamacare, “I don’t like the mandate, I never have.”
4:14pm
During a radio interview today Heidi Heitkamp tried some history revisionism on her Obamacare track record. “I don’t like the mandate, I never have,” she said of Obamacare’s most controversial facet.
Listen to the full interview here.
This is a problematic claim for Heitkamp. She’s claimed previously that she’s had problems with the health care law, but as Politico reported at the time, “There isn’t evidence she raised concerns about the health care law until she was a candidate for Senate.”
You’d think, if Heitkamp actually objected to the health insurance mandate (which has always been the most controversial part of the law), she would have said something back when she was headlining SEIU rallies in favor of the law.
I guess Heitkamp feels that if she keeps repeating the claim that she was skeptical of Obamacare over and over again people will start to believe it?
On a related note, Heitkamp’s words about controlling health care costs through government efforts to combat obesity and tobacco use smacks of full-on nanny statism. Mayor Bloomberg, he of the bans on soda consumption, would be proud.
