Victory Wednesday Thursday: Vote For Grotberg Because Conrad Is A Rank Panderer

Last week I promised to put up a post detailing a reason to vote ND Senator Kent Conrad out of office in favor of his challenger Dwight Grotberg every Wednesday of every week until the election. Unfortunately, I forgot to put up my post for yesterday so today will have to be a “Victory Thursday” post.
Anyway, today’s reason to vote for Grotberg instead of Conrad is because Conrad tends to only vote like his constituents want him to when it’s around election time. Let’s face it: Most voters are somewhat apathetic and have a very short memory when it comes to Congressional voting records. This means that politicians like Conrad, who is stuck between his far-left liberal national party and his very conservative political constituency, can get away with voting like a Massachusetts liberal when he’s a few years away from election day.
According to the National Journal both of North Dakota’s Senators are among the most liberal in Congress.
According to the numbers, Byron Dorgan votes more liberally than 75.7% percent of his colleagues and Kent Conrad votes more liberally than 59.7%.
What’s interesting, though, is that if we roll back the clock a couple of years on this same study, Conrad was voting more liberal than 61% of his colleagues in 2003 and 76% colleagues in 2002. Conrad was last re-elected in 2000, meaning that the years 2002 and 2003 fall in the middle of his term. As he’s approached re-election in this year Conrad has started voting more conservatively.
It is fascinating how Conrad seems to get more liberal the further he is from election day. Seems to me that maybe North Dakota should elect a Senator who don’t have to change the way he votes during election years.
Our Senators should represent the interests of North Dakota voters in the Senate for their entire term, not just when they think North Dakotans are paying attention. I think Grotberg is someone who will do that, and that’s why his campaign should have your support.

Full disclosure: I have not, nor will I, receive any payment from the Grotberg campaign for the existence of donation links on my website or my personal recommendation of Dwight Grotberg as a candidate nor has said endorsement or links been provided at the request of Grotberg or his campaign.

Grotberg is a good guy, he just needs to get his message out.

And yes, convincing North Dakotans that a change is needed is Job #1. But with the right organization and the right people it can be done.

It’s all a matter of who he takes advice from.

Actually not Rob, but you keep putting Grotberg out there as if the ND republican party isn’t supporting his candidacy.

Also it is clear that the voters of ND like what they get from their senators and representative since they keep sending them back even with the crap you put out there.

And he will be handily re-elected by a large majority ND citizens.

Wow, Puzzle. I didn’t think you’d be so supportive of Grotberg.

Kudos for seeing Conrad as the pandering, slick, pseudo-North Dakotan that he is.

I support Grotberg’s candidacy, and he was affirmed as a candidate at the NDGOP convention. Not sure what you’re getting at.

Crap? I think my points about Conrad are well made, and certainly you seem unable to refute them as all you can do is sneer and demean.

As for North Dakotans sending Conrad back even with all the “crap” I put out, I’d point out that this is the first ND Congressional election that I’ve commented on. In the past the only way North Dakotans learned about their candidates was through the in-state media. And let’s face it, the media here in ND are basically a bunch of lapdogs for the incumbents. Hopefully I can widen the spectrum of commentary and opinion a bit and give North Dakotans a more objective overall view of Conrad and Pomeroy.
