Vatican: Democrats – the Party of Death

Vice Presidential candidates Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were singled out liars by the Prefect of the Vatican’s highest court, as he labeled the Democrats the”party of death.”

Vatican officials seldom single out political leaders who differ with the Church on issues like abortion rights or embryonic stem cell research. But now that the Vatican’s highest court is led by an American, the former St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke, we can expect things to get more explicit in Vatican City — at least when when it comes to U.S. politics.
Burke, who was named prefect of the Vatican’s Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature in June, told the Italian Catholic newspaper Avvenire that the U.S. Democratic Party risked “transforming itself definitively into a party of death for its decisions on bioethical issues.” He then attacked two of the party’s most high profile Catholics — vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — for misrepresenting Church teaching on abortion.
He said Biden and Pelosi, “… while presenting themselves as good Catholics, have presented Church doctrine on abortion in a false and tendentious way.”

Imagine! Religious leaders who take the cannons of their faith seriously, and expect those who confess that faith to actually live up to its precepts instead of compromising them on the altar of political expediency. Imagine that!

The Vatican. Well now, they are certainly authorities on “party of death”, not to mention pedophilia and greed.

As far as the pedophilia is concerned, unlike the Boy Scouts, the Catholic Church didn’t have the good sense to screen out gay men from the priesthood.

It’s about time. Unfortunately religion has also been a victim of liberal relativism which try to make allowances for any and all types of abberant behavior. Hopefully that malady is past as more and more religious leaders strongly express their theological views and condemn those that try to distort them.

Let the ex-communications begin! Ted Kennedy first, John Kerry next!
