Union Files Grievance Against Union Over Layoffs

The Service Employees International Union, considered the most influential union in the nation, has notified the union that represents about 220 of its national field staff and organizers that 75 of them are being laid off. In return, the workers’ union, which goes by the somewhat postmodern name of the Union of Union Representatives, has filed unfair labor practices charges against SEIU with the National Labor Relations Board. The staff union’s leaders say that SEIU is engaging in the same kind of practices that some businesses use — laying off workers without proper notice, contracting out work to temp firms, banning union activities and reclassifying workers to reduce union numbers.
“It’s completely hypocritical,” said staff union President Malcolm Harris. “This is the union that’s been at the forefront of progressive issues, around ensuring that working people and working families are taken care of, but when it comes to the people that work for SEIU, they haven’t set the same standards.”

Maybe as these idiots do this stuff to themselves they’ll start to understand what they do to the economy in general.

I always wondered why, if unions are there to protect the workers from the evil management and ownership, why are most Government employee’s unionized, especially when Government is the savior of all, especially the ‘working class’?

Waitaminute… what? People who work for a union need another union to represent them? Isn’t that a little like an actor needing an agent to represent him to his agent, needing one remote to operate another remote to operate the tv?

What? You mean they don’t trust the union as an employer? Well, why would you trust them to represent you if you worked somewhere else?

Oh wait, it’s because when you work somewhere else they vacusuck your paycheck for dues and feel some lingering sense of responsibility and actually try to represent you once in a while so they can claim all the political and financial benefits of being your go-between but when you actually work for them, they treat you like any other worker anywhere.

Silly me, I forgot that unions are no different than any other hierarchical organization or individual for that matter and do what they do out of self interest and not altruism. Buzz, are you paying attention?
