Unabashed Media Bias

This week marks the 60th anniversary of America's use of the atomic bomb in Japan. As is to be expected there has been a significant amount of media coverage of this anniversary, including this article from USA Today.

Basically its an overview of the issues at the time containing the all too typical hand-wringing we've come to expect when about whether or not we should have used the bomb come up.

What I'm wondering, however, is why this little tid-bit found its way into the article:

Truman will be remembered as the president who brought us both victory and peace in a war that was justified and necessary. By contrast, self-proclaimed "War President" George Bush has brought us neither victory nor peace in the Iraq war, which former president Jimmy Carter this week called "unnecessary and unjust."

What does George Bush and the war in Iraq have to do with Hiroshima and the events of sixty years ago?

Talk about a bitter, partisan cheap shot. Sheesh.

The war in the pacific was a much simpler situation, fighting an actual nation, not an ideology. The targets were clear and it was just a case of bodycounts.I think it is a bit of a cheap shot to liken the problems of today to the dropping of the bomb. We won’t know if Bush truly took the right course for decades to come probably…

But we were at war then, and at war now, so I guess it’s all related. It’s all about the means justifying the ends and how they will be judged.

Liberal lunatics not only can’t wait for the war to end before calling it a failure (and apparently they forgot that wars don’t equal one mission) they couldn’t wait for the war to begin before foretelling of the disasterous quagmire that was sure to come.

Write ‘em. I just did. Email the Editor, USA Today

Opinion belongs in the editorial section. It’s offensive to see it in the news section.
