UK Judge: Molester Not Sent To Jail Because 11 Year Old Girl “Welcomed” His Advances. Wait - WHAT?

I seldom post on things like this because of the nature of the subject. It’s all too easy to sensationalize this issue. But this, to use the vernacular of today, is off the hook:

A paedophile who molested an 11-year-old girl escaped jail yesterday when a judge ruled the victim had “welcomed” his advances.

Judge Robert Atherton triggered outrage when he told Manchester Crown Court the child had invited Jon Dixon’s attack as she had a “sexual awareness” that would make someone twice her age blush.

The judge rejected an assessment by the probation service that Dixon, 20, posed a “high risk of serious harm to children”.

His reasoning? If you can call it that, that is.....the girl had portayed herself as a twenty year old. But even after she confessed that she was only (she said) twelve, they still communicated:

Dixon and his victim exchanged 900 text graphic messages over a two-week period before the girl told Dixon she was actually aged 12 - although her real age was 11.

He continued to pursue her with more graphic sexual text messages, emails and a request for pornographic photos before they met.

“It was clear the defendant’s attitude and intentions towards her had not changed despite her saying she was only 12,” said Jonathan Dickinson, prosecuting.

So, the basis of the judge’s opinion was that, even after the girl had been determined to be a child by the offender he did nothing to warrant a jail term because she had put herself out there as a twenty year old. The fact that he molested after he discovered she was a child meant little.

Read the whole article. Personally, I hope it’s tabloid sensationalism, but it may not be.

I need a drink.

Well, duh Mr Judge, that’s why it’s illegal to #$%* lil’ kids, because THEY ARE dumb and naive. Regardless of their actions they are children and the adult is responsible for the situation.
In my view this judge is as guilty as the pedophile rapist

This case is quite bothersome to me and I just don’t understand the judges decision.

The age of consent in England and Wales is 16. Under current legislation, a male who has sex with a girl under 16 is guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse, even if the girl agrees.
The maximum penalty for the offence is two years in jail. If the girl is under 13, the maximum sentence is life.

Did this creep not break the law?
Pff… a judge sporting a flippin’ berber rug on his head. Is everyone crazy across the crick in England?

From what I’ve seen, European leaders don’t share the American “fetish” for punishment and retribution. The consequence is that a lot of people who do really bad things get slapped on the wrist.

Looking at the guys hand it seems he has been shooting up in its veins.

In my travels around Europe; London, Dublin, Rome, it’s been my impression that children - indeed, childhood, itself - is viewed quite differently than Americans view it.

Children move about freely, often with no parents in view. Adolescents are virtually independent. Whether that phenomena has anything to do with this bizairre case is debatable, but interesting.

I just figured that those were liver spots.

Wing Chun:  Liver spots?  Um, I don’t think so. Liver spots, usually associated with older persons, are subtle, brownish, random and rarely as pronounced as the marks on his hand; marks which - in his case - seem patterened in two rows.

No, those are not likely to be liver-spots.

That is just so sick and so wrong. The judge should be wearing a little pillowcase on his head too. Where are the parents?
