Uh oh! Another Democrat gets indicted

I don’t remember whether this guy is on SA commenter Reality Based Bob’s hall of shame or not, but here’s another hole in the Democrat’s narrative for the “Republican culture of corruption[tm]“: Former [Democrat] Alabama Governor, Business Exec Convicted in Bribery Scheme

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Former Gov. Don Siegelman and former Health South CEO Richard Scrushy were convicted Thursday in a bribery scheme that derailed Siegelman’s campaign to retake his former office.

On the face of it, the idea of returning to power on the assumption that members of the opposing party are some how naturally more prone to corruption is quite a breathless one to me. It just shows really that the Democratic Party has no better ideas returning to power than they do for running the country once they’ve returned to power.

rbb: No matter how many links you dig up, it doesn’t answer the basic question: What is the causal connection between Party membership and the dishonest and/or illegal actions of any particular politician? Was Clinton’s criminal behavior due to his Dem party membership? Inquiring minds want to know.

  • robert108

As much as I dislike Clinton and all his crimes and misdemeanors, and as much as I dislike the Dem Party, which I consider the party of European Socialism, I know that there is no causal relationship between Party membership and corruption, even in the rather egregious case of Clinton. It’s just a false assertion. Politicians are capable of being corrupt all on their own.

  • carrick

Robert108, I think the cross-over point is where being a member of the party requires such intellectual dishonesty that you couldn’t be a member unless you were in someway intellectually corrupted already.

I don’t think that’s true with either of the main parties. But it’s probably true for being a member of some of the splinter groups like CPUSA.

  • robert108

rbb seems stuck in his old mode, unable to demonstrate any causal relationship between Party affiliation and corruption. He just keeps doing the same thing, even though he has been busted. One-trick pony?

  • carrick

No word on Kerik’s party affiliation yet, not that it matters.

I think that Robert108 has the right of it:

wrong. When an individual politician does something slimy or criminal, it’s not because of their political party, it’s because of their personal failings.

Trying to link one party or another to lesser character is in general a bit like modeling noise. There is no expectation, except by party hacks, of any linkage.

The exception maybe for members of CPUSA.

RBB, are you, or have you ever been a member of the … never mind.

  • carrick

    I like Robert108′s choice better.

Then there’s Jimmy Carter, Bert Lance and the BCCI scandal, or the Keating Five. John Kerry almost scuttled his hopes for a presidential nomination by being to aggressive in pursuing the BCCI scandal.

In any case, after seeing RBB’s comments, I think this still applies:

On the face of it, the idea of returning to power on the assumption that members of the opposing party are some how naturally more prone to corruption is quite a breathless one to me. It just shows really that the Democratic Party has no better ideas returning to power than they do for running the country once they’ve returned to power.

  • robert108

The whole “culture of corruption” meme is wrong. When an individual politician does something slimy or criminal, it’s not because of their political party, it’s because of their personal failings. Of course, the exception might be the House banking scandal. That really might have been a culture of corruption…

  • realitybasedbob

Sorry that was the culture of perversion list.

Is what you are looking for?

    ellinas,

Were your proposition “All this proves one thing. You can’t trust the politicians, none of them.” true, it would logically follow that corruption at the state and local levels would follow a random distribution. Oddly, and contrary to your assertion, corruption runs most rampant in those localities and states that are dominated by the Democrats.

Pretty amusing watching RBB try to “prove that Republicans are indeed the Party of Corruption”, after proclaiming that “no, he’s just after corruption”.

The fact is that corruption is a human vice, not a Republican one, and it won’t take very many highly visible scandals like the one I linked here or say Congessman Jefferson (just to for starts) to make a total ass out of people like RBB or Senator Reed who keeping pushing this oxygen-less meme.

I”m just going to close by repeating Robert108′s comment again:

wrong. When an individual politician does something slimy or criminal, it’s not because of their political party, it’s because of their personal failings.

Maybe this time it will get through RBBs very partisan, hypocritical and very thick skull.

Har har, oh yeah, the Democrats, the party that causes the dead to rise and vote, and has taught dogs the neat trick of pulling levers in voting booths, is perfectly ethical, and only Republicans are corrupt?

That is just laughable on its face.

Does the name William ‘Cold Cash’ Jefferson ring a bell?

All this proves one thing. You can’t trust the politicians, none of them. Every time they open their mouth they are lying. From the White House to the dog house all are bloody liers and hypocrites. What a shame.

realitydenyingboob, nothing you post concerning anyone clears your boy Teddie. He took a woman not his wife to a party, got her drunk, raped her, and then murdered her. There is nothing any Repub has ever done to trump that. Period. And we will not go into J Rockefeller’s many many many fuck ups. Let alone the activities of your Grand Clegal. Or your party’s anti-civil rights stance. Tell your troubles to Jesus, shitbag, the Chaplain went over the hill.

rbb: You continue your pointless, agendized, partisan monologue of only listing Republican scandals, while not mentioning the Democrat ones. This type of “reporting” is typical of the MSM, and is useless here. You continue to fail to prove any causal relationship between Party affiliation and alleged corruption. I know you can’t do that, because it doesn’t exist.

Rodney Graves, politicians are non truth tellers, and or unable to answer a question as posed. Remember when G. Bush current president of the USA said he would fire the leakers in his administration? None to date. Remember senator Kerry not being able to state his position on Iraq? Remember senator Cunningham? How about Bill Clinton? How about Bush senior and his famous “read my lips. No new taxes.” How about R. Reagan and arms for hostages? And on and on and on!!!!!!!!!!!

Carrick’s conclusion makes an ass of Rodney Graves, thusly:

    Carrick:

The fact is that corruption is a human vice, not a Republican one, and it won’t take very many highly visible scandals like the one I linked here or say Congessman Jefferson (just to for starts) to make a total ass out of people like RBB or Senator Reed who keeping pushing this oxygen-less meme.

Well, Carrick, Rodney pushed the meme as well, here:

corruption runs most rampant in those localities and states that are dominated by the Democrats.
    **********************

It’s a human vice, Rodney: Carrick says so. It has nothing to do with either party. And I’m curious where you got those statistics as well.

  • TwoHotel9

Gang, y’all got realitydenyingboob all in a dither. Good job!

    a trick I learned from someone here….

Well, a statistical coincidence is good enough for the global warming crowd.

    No, the other Jerry Lewis

    May 12th, 2006

I have never told a local representative or someone seeking to work on a federal project that they must have a lobbyist representing them. It is an ironclad rule in my office that we do not recommend lobbyists, even if a constituent asks for that recommendation.

    June 7, 2006

“I have never recommended a lobbyist to any constituent, contractor or anyone seeking federal funds…To do so would be extremely unethical, and it goes entirely against all of my principles of good governing.”

    Uh oh, Sept. 5, 2002

Lewis [in a letter] said he had a 10-year working relationship with Tom Skancke, a registered lobbyist and president of The Skancke Company of Las Vegas.

“It is a pleasure to be writing this letter on Tom’s behalf and strongly recommend San Bernardino County’s retaining The Skancke Company’s services,” Lewis wrote.

    Uh oh, more gloating!

    Ole what his name.

That really might have been a culture of corruption

We’re going to have to change your title to “Reality Challenged Bob”. See this for a summary. Not all progressives are as reality starved as you.
