Ugly Is In at the US Mint

image

Remember the Susan B. Anthony coin?  I recall that the decedents of Ms. Anthony asked the mint to not pretty up the depiction of her.  Those coins flopped.

Now the US Mint is depicting some nice looking guys as bug-ugly.  What are they thinking?  Jefferson’s not too bad looking except the engraver gave him those owl-eyes.  But Washington and Madison look pissed over this.

Comments

Like the ugly state quarters.
The sacajewaya dollar, the flops keep coming.
Having too many designs debases the currency.

Like the ugly state quarters.

Hey,..I actually like many of the state quarters. I think that it is a cool idea. I wouldn’t mind if it became a permanent thing where every ten years they start the process over again while keeping the same state designs.

I’m still trying to envision what “Thw Wistler” dollar or “The Rob” would look like ... PhotoShopp skills accepted!!!

My word ... doe we have no honest men to vote for?

I find the different designs obfuscate the coins denomination.

What is this thing?

Nixon dollar coin coming in 2016 !!!

If the pattern is followed, there will be a Carter dollar the same year there is a Nixon one.  The dollar will immediately collapse upon their circulation.

This may be offset by a Reagan dollar, which would be due on the same schedule.

My Dollar’s better looking.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

What they look like is not the issue. People don’t want a dollar coin that is the same size as the quarter. This is absolutely stupid!

Eeeek!  Those new coins are skeery.

I wish we were rich enough to save at least one each of all the “old” money.  You know, the real money.  Our son probably won’t be able to remember what it all used to look like when he’s grown, and it would be nice to be able to show him.

No, people don’t want a dollar coin that is so close in size to the quarter.  But I don’t think they want a dollar coin at all.  People tend to collect a lot of singles throughout the day/week - imagine what it would all weigh if it was in coin form.  Myself, I’d rather just keep the paper bills, even if they do look funny.

When Canada introduced the loonie, the cost of products in all vending machines went up to a dollar.

I think that if we simply got rid of the penny, most products would come down four cents!

Here in the States, most marketing folks think that $399.99 sounds so much less than $400.00, everything is priced accordingly. They’d have to round the last dollar down to $.95 to be consistent.

A troll is someone who only wants to stir up trouble, not have an honest debate.  Some signs that a poster is a troll:
* Dodges questions from other posters * Refuses to give sources
* When one of its arguments is shown to be false, either ignores the proof or moves the goalposts.  Heh. (From the LGF faq)

I hear they’re going to have Rich Little sit in for Nixon.
