Twins-A’s Take Backseat to the Evil Empire

The most exciting first-round playoff series in all of baseball will be the Twins-A’s series.  Since the beginning of June, the Twins have the best record in baseball; since the All-Star break, the A’s hold that distinction.  Game 1 will feature the best pitcher in baseball (Johan Santana), against former Cy Young award winner with the most wicked curveball in recent history (Barry Zito).  Three of the five games will take place in the Homer Dome, which is one of the worst stadiums but one of the very best baseball playoff atmospheres.

The problem, here, is that all three of their games this week will have the first pitch thrown in the afternoon.  That means that most people working will not be able to watch this treat.  What a joke!  Take one guess as to which team gets to hog the lime-light this week…

the Yankees, of course.

Makes me sick.

Most exciting series in baseball?  Please.  People want to watch the Yankees...the best team in baseball.

This Yankees fan is happy that they are not playing the Twins in the first round best of 5.  And I agree, that series is going to be great to watch.  That being said, it is going to be great to watch if you are an overall baseball fan.  The Twins and A’s are not big draws, they do not have a following across the country.

The Yanks on the other hand are the best draw in baseball.  They have fans all over the country, as well as rabid anti-fans who will tune in in the hopes of watching them lose.  And the prime-time game decisions are made with that in mind.

Of course, you probably already knew this and were just venting.  I sympathize but this misplaced jersey boy now living in the midwest is happy with the decision.

Take one guess as to which team gets to hog the lime-light this week…

A) A team in the Eastern Time Zone (late starting time generates best ratings)
B) The team with the best record.

The Yankees are both.

The team whose #9 hitter had the third best batting average in the major leagues, whose starting lineup averages over 3 All Star appearances apiece, and whose closer has a lifetime ERA of 0.81, won tonight’s opener with Detroit, 8-4.

How terribly, terribly predictable.
