Twenty Of The World’s Most Dangerous Places

The UK Telegraph has a list of twenty places that only the unwary – or in some cases the downright stupid – would choose to visit without a seriously compelling reason to do so. Great photos with the article as well.
Some of them are obvious, like the wonderland of Chechnya (pictured on the front page) or the paradise that is Afghanistan, but some of them on the list are surprising, like Jamaica and our wonderful neighbor to the south, Mexico.
Anyway, here’s the list of places to avoid if you’re not looking for trouble:
Iraq
Chechnya
South Africa
Jamaica
Sudan
Thailand
Colombia
Haiti
Eritea
Democratic Republic of Congo
Liberia
Pakistan
Burundi
Nigeria
Zimbabwe
India
Mexico
Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territories
Lebanon
Most of them make the list for obvious reasons, mainly because they’re occupied by murderous lunatics whose idea of free enterprise involve kidnap and murder, sometimes on as large a scale as possible. Others are there just because of the high crime rate and wandering tourists with bulging wallets make yummy targets. And some of them are places that no sane person would go anyway.
I guess I’ll have to rethink that trip to Eritrea. Damn.

Whe we were in Jamaica a few years back, the lovely “staff” at the Beaches were supposed to be teacking my children to scuba dive. They did that, however, several of them were also giving my kids rum drinks that were 2/3rds liquor, and gave my 15 yr old daughter a big baggies of pot. She brought it back to show us, along with one of the drinks. She also said that one of the guys told her if she would give him a BJ he would make sure she had all the pot she wanted. She is smart, so she snapped pics of him w/ her cell phone, and came back and told us. I threw a fit, they said that the guys would be fired, but I doubt it, they don’t give a rip. So much for nice resorts. I’ve been to Mexico 4-5 times, mostly in business districts, so I didn’t see anything too wild, but you know it’s there.

    And DC. And Detroit.

Jamaica has been having a serious drug gang problem, hasn’t spread into the tourist areas very much, but it is still there.

Hey, Ed? What is the homicide rate in Detroit? What is the Physical Assault rate in Detroit? What is the Rape/Sexual Assault rate in Detroit? How many times per month are vehicles stolen, homes robbed, property vandalized?

Thugee leaders, or Drugie people in most.

    Pretty common commonsensical to me.
