Trump Card: Popular Senator John Hoeven Appears In Latest Berg Ad
9:51am
Whatever else Senator John Hoeven’s critics may want to say about him, he’s wildly popular here in North Dakota. When he was governor he routinely had approval ratings measured in the 70% region, even into his third term in office and when he was elected Senator he got 76% of the vote.
The Berg campaign is hoping some of that mojo rubs off in their Senate campaign against liberal Democrat Heidi Heitkamp who has made the race close than many expected, which is why Hoeven is appearing in a new ad for Berg:
These sort of endorsements matter to voters. I’ve been remiss in not writing it, but I think one of the other important thing the Berg campaign has done is round up endorsements from the mayors of some of the state’s largest cities. It may seem cheesy, but in terms of local politics stuff like this works.
Heitkamp, for her part, hasn’t picked up these endorsements due, more than likely, to the fact that Democrats just don’t hold a lot of local offices in North Dakota.
One of the benefits of a deep Republican bench in the state is that there exists a network of locally-elected Republicans who can contribute their names and resources to helping other Republicans get elected.
