Trends In Race Relations And Gun Violence Don’t Match Media/Political Narrative

An excellent video from Reason.tv pointing out that despite the media and political narratives surrounding the Trayvon Martin case, violent crime rates (specifically those involving guns) are down while race relations are improving.

The Trayvon Martin case may reveal more about our media, and certain political movements, than it does about race relations and gun policy in America.

I think anybody should be able to own whatever form of protection they want from a brick to a tank. That does not mean you can go around picking fights and than when you get your ass kicked use the weapon in self defense. The sad thing about this case is how the liberals instantly came to the defense of Martin and the Conservatives instantly came to the defense of Zimmerman. Picking a fight and than using a weapon in that fight is not self defense.

    • mickey_moussaoui

Trayvon Martin started the fight when he jumped Zimmerman from behind.
Trayvon martin threw the first punch.
Trayvon Martin had Zimmerman pinned to the ground.
And Trayvon Martin made a move to disarm a legally armed Zimmerman and threatened to use the gun to kill Zimmerman.
Trayvon Martin got himself killed for attacking a legally armed citizen.

      • Jamermorrow

if those are the facts fine. Before the facts were even known conservatives and liberals had already picked their side.

There may have been jumps to conclusions on both sides absent first hand knowledge. But the leaps were first made by the race-baiting factions of the left. The right’s response may have seemed overdone to some, but in light of the initial race-baiting, many may have felt it was necessary to highlight the other side of the story. Call both sides wrong if you want, but which side is calling for violence against ZImmerman? Which side is inciting violence in general? And which side is going to raise REAL hell if the court case doesn’t go ‘their’ way?

        • mickey_moussaoui

NO, actually liberals chose a lynch mob and conservatives simply pointed out what assholes you were.

        • Econwarrior

Wrong.  Liberals immediately proclaimed it a race crime, published doctored 911 tapes and used misleading photos of both Martin and Zimmerman, along with forming a lynch mob.  Conservatives, as the facts started to leak out, disputed the liberal narrative, and as more facts come out, it looks like the conservatives are right, and the liberals are wrong.

But you and your other sockpuppets have claimed there is no evidence to show that Zimmerman confronted Treyvon.  Yet the only evidence that exitsts tells us that Treyvon was scared for his safety and ran, Zimmerman followed him then when Zimmerman confronted Treyvon he said “what are you doing around here” and then a fight broke out.

        Zimmerman is toast.

There is no evidence of any kind to support Zimmermans story that he was jumped. None, zip, nada!

        • Econwarrior

You lie, little hanni/danny; there is no evidence of your claim.

          • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

Of course there is.  It’s all over the news.  There is NO evidence that [Zimmerman] was jumped.  None, zip, nada.

You had it right the first time.

          • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

Zimmerman is not accused of jumping Treyvon, only killing him after stalking him….once Treyvon ran out of fear.

There is evidence of all of those things.

          • Ken

When are you going to Florida to testify to things as you think they are?
Following is not stalking, especially while on the phone with the police. Since you weren’t there, you don’t know what emotion Martin was feeling. But if he was in fear, why didn’t he or his girl friend, if he was on the phone with her, why didn’t one of them call the police?

          • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

When did you go to the land of denial to deny these things that have happened and are recorded as evidence?

          • Ken

I haven’t denied that Zimmerman followed Martin while he was on the phone with the cops. I haven’t denied that even though it can’t be determined who started it, they got into an altercation. I haven’t denied that Martin was beating the crap out of Zimmerman and I haven’t denied that Zimmerman shot Martin. What’s also recorded as evidence is the fact that after interviewing Zimmerman for 5 hours, and after interviewing witness’s, one of which said he saw Martin on top Zimmerman and Zimmerman yelling for help they released Zimmerman.

          • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

You appear to be denying that Treyvon ran and Zimmerman pursued him, even though Zimmerman is the person who told us Treyvon was fleeing and that he was after him.

That fact alone shows us that Zimmerman can not claim self defense when he is the guy doing the chasing.

Then we have his girlfriends affidavit stating that he ran because he was fearful of Zimmerman’s actions.  This gives Martin the right to stand his ground.

            stalkingpresent participle of stalk (Verb)
            Verb:Pursue or approach stealthily: “a cat stalking a bird”lockquote.

          • Ken

You seem to be denying the eye witness’s account of what he saw and heard.
I’m also wondering why, if Martin was so fearful, and this incident happened 70 feet from where he was staing, why didn’t he go inside? The girl friends affadavit was probably written by Al Sharpton.

          • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

Nice spin, HG, what did the witnesses see?  That Zimmerman was getting his ass beat?  That’s no excuse to pull out a gun since he instigated the fight.

Sorry Boggerman, there is no evidence as to who started the actual fight.

          • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

Under the stand your ground law, Treyvon had a right to defend himself from a guy who was following him, even after he ran.  When confronted by a man with a gun, Treyvon has a right to stand his ground, but Zimmerman didn’t have a right to shoot him since he was following him, by his own admission.  (that’s evidence by the way)

          • Ken

So again you’re saying that Zimmerman had his gun out and rather than run inside his house, or continue to runaway, Martin, in his ultimate wisdom decided to confront a man brandishing a gun. Is that what you’re saying, YES or NO? man who was

Some have said it’s too bad there weren’t two of them, and that Zimmerman were armed with a double barreled shotgun. Leaving the genitals intact, of course, for your kind.

Are you saying that the lead detective, under oat, said that there is no evidence as to who started the fight? Or will you be going to Florida to testify to your version of the events?

Wouldn’t the fact that Trayvon Martin put down his Skittles and soda carry some weight in a court of law?  That seems to show premeditation as to what he intended to do.  Along those lines, a white man, or woman, will be found guilty, of unduly using force, if they were to shoot a black man, who’d broken in,  just inside their front door. However if they flee behind their bedroom door, which the invader subsequently breaks down, and shoot him on that side of the door, they’ll have the law on their side.  Don’t know about the number of rounds, the caliber of the gun, the size of the magazine, whether a shotgun could be used, the assailants clothes, whether 911 was called before, or if it was, how dark skinned he might have been, whether he drove, was driven, or slunk stealthily into your yard, or whether he was whistling Dixie while doing the deed. Those things will be determined, most likely, by the interest Al Sharpton, or Calypso Louie, has in the case.  Good luck.

  • awfulorv

The location where this happened, the corner of Olive and Garden streets, is extremely intriguing to me.   What if this entire incident was the result of the young man searching for some Collard greens, to go with his Skittles, and Soda, at a well known restaurant he expected to find at that spot?    Unfortunately, rather than an eatery, he met up with Mr. Zimmerman, doing his duty, protecting his community from stealthy intruders, and the rest of the story is, sadly, still to be adjudicated.    But I ask you, dear reader, might not First Traveler Michelle Obama, with her incessant haranguing about healthy foods, especially greens, bear some culpability in this matter?    I think she does.   Had Mr. Martin never heard of the diet being hawked by Michelle I, for one, doubt he would have found himself at that particular spot, and no altercation would have occurred.    If the Gabby Giffords shooting was attributed, by the ultra Liberal crowd, to the crosshairs on Sarah Palins gun, then, surely, a connection, at least as tenuous as that was, can be made between this shooting, and Michelle Obama.

  • Bat One

I wonder how much more self-righteous braying by race-baiting liberals before the judge decides that Zimmerman simply can’t get a fair trial because of all the pre-trial publicity.  Already one judge has recused herself last week, even before the bail hearing.

    • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

Well gooooollly, lil Fella, the judge didn’t recuse herself because of any public unfairness to Zimmerman, but rather because of Zimmerman’s connections to her and his defense attorney’s.

Also, stop making this a black vs. white issue when it’s clearly a profiling and civil case.

Florida Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler recused herself Wednesday because of a potential conflict that relates to her husband.

He works with Orlando attorney Mark NeJame, who was first approached
by Zimmerman’s family to represent the neighborhood watch volunteer.

But NeJame declined and referred them to Mark O’Mara, who is now
representing Zimmerman. NeJame has since been hired by CNN to comment on
      the case.

      • Bat One

One more time, please stop trying to put words i my mouth.  You’re STILL  not smart enough to get away with it.  I didn’t say why the judge recused herself… only that she had.

As for “making this a black vs. white issue”, you are this site’s premier race-baiter, so of course that accusation is laughable.  Unlike you, and the rest of the hyperbolic race agitators on the Left, I’m quite content to leave this case to the judicial system.

Finally , let me suggest that after you try to learn something about markets, liquidity, and “speculators” you spend some serious time learning about the American judicial system.  This is NOT a civil case – its a criminal case as Mr. Zimmerman is formally charged with 2nd degree murder.  The case also has nothing whatsoever to do with “profiling.”  If you want people here to stop laughing at the witless drivel you post and maybe start to take you seriously, you should stop using words you don’t understand simply because you think it makes you sound knowledgeable.

        • Hannitized, Proofs obsession

“I didn’t say why the judge recused herself… only that she had.”

You dishonestly put the fact the the judge recused herself in with your bit about Zimmerman being unable to get a fair trial and you suggested that the judge recused herself because of pre-trial publicity and race-baiting.  You tied them together, don’t blame others for your inability to seperate subjects.

And while the court case may be a “criminal” case, the reason why there is so much pre-trial publicity is because Americans recognize an injustice and see this as a civil rights issue.

Treyvon was singled out for no reason, Zimmerman appears to have made a racial slur against him and they ended up shooting him……then walking.  Americans should be able to walk down the street without fear someone may start a fight with you and shoot you, and get away with it.

To Americans who recognize the injustice in this case, it is more than a simple criminal matter.  You may not understand it, but one day you might.

you suggested that the judge recused herself because of pre-trial publicity and race-baiting.

After you have finished looking up the correct  definitions of “wealth,” “money,” “markets,” “speculator,” “investor,” …oh, and “profiling,” all of which you have misapprehended, be sure to look up the definitions of “imply” and “infer.”  They are not the same thing at all.

You can look those up, can’t you?

Trayvon got himself killed when he attacked a legally armed citizen.

Now the blacks can attack some more innocent white people in Trayvons honor as a thug
