Tom Coburn: Instead Of Raising The National Debt Ceiling, Maybe We Should Just Cut Spending?

Or does that make too much sense?

Instead of raising the debt ceiling again, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) suggests cutting enough spending to keep the federal government under the current debt limit for a few more months. We’re only talking about $20 billion in cuts and Coburn’s amendment lists 640 duplicate programs that could be consolidated. The Wall Street Journal has more.

Now remember, Democrats are committing themselves to deficit reduction. Obama’s talking about it. Democrat congressional leadership is talking about it. If they really mean what they say, why not stop creating more deficits and debt instead of raising the national debt ceiling thus clearing the way for more deficits and debt?
Of course, that’s presuming they actually mean what they say. Which they don’t.

Simple truths that everyone can relate to usually make the best jokes. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • sayanything-15427

Well, originally the idea was that only Property Owners would get a vote. I don’t necessarily see a problem with that if you include anything that requires property tax. So if you don’t own a car or real estate then you aren’t productive enough to get a vote. I would even allow exceptions for auto loans and car loans so that those people could vote as well.

But if there are 10 people on welfare and 1 rich guy, is the welfare party or the wealth party going to win the election? Democrats love their built in voting block, until it starts to slip and they have to legalize a bunch of immigrants to up their numbers.

I’m all for what I call the “FairVote”: everyone gets one vote for each dollar they pay in taxes.

Bring that up in a room full of lefties and we’ll see real quick just how tolerant they are…

Gee, when I’m running a bit short of cash first thing I do is get another credit card. That seems to be working.

It is so simple, elegant and true that the Dems are unable to understand it.

What’s the point of a debt ceiling if it can just be raised by the same people spending?

That’d be like me budgeting $10 for a week’s worth of lunches, and then going and spending $20 on a whim. If I did that too often, I’d ruin my financial standing.

    Sound familiar?

  • sayanything-106

I think that is a good idea I also think the Government should stop bribing people with OUR tax dollars, no more money for ACORN and other groups like that.

  • sayanything-3444

Stop spending to get out of debt? …. Nah, that’ll never work!

  • sayanything-4808

And every Democrat exposed to the concept stuck their fingers in their ears and screamed, “stop trying to control us by talking sense!”

That pretty much sums up what will be going on inside the minds of liberals with respect to that idea.

The Democrat Stimulus whores are going to give us sermons on fiscal integrity. Great.

  • mplsbob

Good point. Maybe the people should vote to make that decision to raise the debt ceiling. I’m sorry, I mean only those who actually pay taxes can vote on this.

I am liking Tom Coburn more and more!

I noticed Gaylord Conrad voted for this. Sen. Deficit Hawk is really Sen. Deficit Chicken.
