Tom Brokaw Named to Russert Seat Through Nov. Election

Keith Olbermann is said to be crying himself to sleep! Heh.

NBC News has named Tom Brokaw moderator of Meet the Press through the 2008 presidential election, beginning next Sunday, June 29. The news was announced on the program today, a little over a week after the death of Tim Russert.

    It enjoyed watching Chis Matthews express awe at the intelect and integrity of Tim Russert, while lamenting the fact that Russert supported the war in Iraq.

    Unlike Matthews, Russert was a devout Catholic who believed that some causes were worth dying for. It’s pretty hard to convince secular numbskulls like Matthews that dying is necessary at all–at least, without triggering litigation.

    There is only one guy out there who might be a credible replacement for Russert, and that is Chris Wallace. If he were to get the nod, I believe the Democrats might be pleasantly surprised, and the Republicans might feel a bit betrayed. Wallace would possess none of Russert’s warmth, but he would be every bit as objective, which would make spending time with him every politician’s nightmare.

    Brian Williams, by the way, was Joe Biden’s bitch yesterday. My guess is the ratings will tank unless and until a “new” Russert is found. Of course, if you can believe it, NBC isn’t in it for the ratings–which would be a good thing if it were true.
