Time Magazine: New McCain Ad Is Racist

Here’s the ad:

Here’s the reaction Karen Tumulty at Time:

When politicians interject race into a campaign, they seldom do it directly. Consider McCain’s new ad, which the campaign says it will be airing nationally. This is hardly subtle: Sinister images of two black men, followed by one of a vulnerable-looking elderly white woman.

Is it John McCain’s fault that both Barack Obama and Franklin Raines are black? I’m thinking McCain probably would have run this same ad even of both men were white.
This racial sensitivity surrounding Obama is absurd. No mainstream conservative or Republican has attacked Obama for being black. No mainstream conservative or Republican really cares that Obama is black. The only people who have been bringing up Barry O’s skin color is Barack Obama, his campaign and his sycophants in the media.
And I’m getting a little tired of it.
Barack Obama is not a victim. He’s a mainstream political candidate who is going to have to suffer criticism like everyone else.

Hasn’t every criticism of Obama been racist according to the mainstream media.

Heck…they even said it was racist to say Obama had been a community organizer.

You’re missing entirely the point of Tumulty’s comment. The ad isn’t racist because Obama and Raines are black, but in that it casts an aged white woman as the victim. Point Missed, Mission Accomplished.

Laughing my butt off. Do you really believe the NYT isn’t in the Obama camp?

    Whistler,

Are you seriously that dumb? The word “camp” is short for campaign.

I believe that to be “in the camp” (read campaign) you need to be welcomed, not merely a fan. Yes I believe NYT is not part of the Obama campaign.

    The question is….why do you?

Further, even if you are dumb enough to believe a camp is just a bunch of people gathered together in a field to support Obama, the camp should consist of only those who are welcome.

Anyone who says stupid shit like this is not welcome.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

BTW, Exactly none of the other definitions define “camp” as short for “campaign”. But, thanks for playing!

I’m sure it’s been down, but I don’t recall seeing “campaign” abbreviated (abr) as “camp.” On the other hand you see the word camp used as definition 8 or 9 all the time.

    Nunez

Total Bullshit!! Like Wright, Rezko, Ayers, Farrakahn, and Khalidi [to name just a few of Hussein's buddies] Obama now has to lie, cheat and steal to distance himself from Raines as well.

There is a voluminous amount of factual, incontrovertible, recorded data that refutes Nunez’s claim. But the sycophant, bootlicker is to blind, lazy and dishonest to research it.

Why would you even argue that the word Camp is not
    often used for campaign?

Because it’s not. It does refer to a group of like-minded people; it’s not an abbreviation for campaign, as you originally claimed.

    Zsa Zsa,

Interesting that you mention Skilling. He was convicted for perpetrating a far lesser fraud than that engineered by Democrat Pooh-Bah and former Fannie CEO Johnson, former Clinton Budget Chief Franklin Raines, and former Janet Reno Deputy Jamie Gorelick.

  • http://www.willisms.com/ Zsa Zsa

Obama is half White. He seems to enjoy denying that fact unless it is convenient. That race card is the Libs favorite game. It appears the Dems are unable to dispute the real issues so they continue to cry racism. I am guessing it is easier than disputing the facts?

  • LoadTheMule

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

I assume that Time magazine ran a story criticizing Obama for running an ad mocking McCain’s war injuries?

  • Bat One

    Nunez,

In fairness, I believe Zsa Zsa was simply confused by the array of Democrat Pooh-Bahs who glide effortlessly back and forth between their roles as “advisors” and GSE big shots. Franklin Raines, former Clinton Budget Director and disgraced CEO of Fannie Mae, has not been an official advisor to the Obama campaign.

Raines’ predecessor as head of Fannie Mae, Jim Johnson, has been an advisor to Obama, and headed up the vetting effort that led to Obama’s choice of Joe Biden (snicker, snicker!) as his running mate.

It is almost impossible to make a point when someone is continually using the race card. It confuses the real issue and you constantly have to defend yourself against racist attacks. The race card is a ridiculous excuse for hiding behind the real issues. That is why the Dems use the race card so much. They have no substance and it gives them some refuge to hide from. The Dems made a HUGE mistake in selecting Obama as their candidate because of all his short comings. It has nothing to do with his heritage or race. Most of the Dems recognize that it was a mistake to select Obama. BUT they can still HOPE that things will CHANGE.

Should the McCain campaign have hired a white actor to portray Mr. Raines?

I hope the underlying message is not lost, that Obama has received great support from the democrat supporting mortgage hogs, Freddie and Fannie, and that Franklin Raines, one of his chief financiial advisors, conductied financial shenanigans that would make Jeff Skilling blush.. Where’s the outrage???

  • http://anthonynunez.blogspot.com/ nunez

Franklin Raines has NOT been an adviser for Barack Obama. Raines adds, “I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.”

    Obama spokesman Bill Burton:

This is another flat-out lie from a dishonorable campaign that is increasingly incapable of telling the truth. Frank Raines has never advised Senator Obama about anything — ever. And by the way, someone whose campaign manager and top advisor worked and lobbied for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac shouldn’t be throwing stones from his seven glass houses.

It is almost impossible to make a point when someone is continually using the race card. It confuses the real issue and you constantly have to defend yourself against racist attacks. The race card is a ridiculous excuse for hiding behind the real issues.

I agree Zsa Zsa. The question is: Why do you play the race card ALL THE TIME??

My brother was a teacher in a predominately black school. My sister was a principal in a predominately black school. They both received death threats and bodily harm from the children and parents. According to them it was next to impossible to teach because of all the red tape and racism. – Zsa Zsa

    Later she adds:

Everyone is human. BUT not everyone shouts racial abuse. -Zsa Zsa 10 minutes after shouting racial abuse..(whites are better…they never cry racial abuse)

    And.

Voting for someone because of skin color is a pathetic statement. Joe Biden should be called on it – Zsa Zsa (on Biden making no comments on voting for Obama because he is black)

You didn’t say that about whites who are voting for McCain because he is white, did you? Or did you?

Franklin Raines has NOT been an adviser for Barack Obama. Raines adds, “I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.”

In 2006 the Washington Post reported (and its principal source was clearly Franklin Raines) that Raines was offering financial advice to Obama:

In the four years since he stepped down as Fannie Mae’s chief executive under the shadow of a $6.3 billion accounting scandal, Franklin D. Raines has been quietly constructing a new life for himself. He has shaved eight points off his golf handicap, taken a corner office in Steve Case’s D.C. conglomeration of finance, entertainment and health-care companies and more recently, taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.

Franklin Raines has NOT been an adviser for Barack Obama. Raines adds, “I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.”

Riiigghhhtt. And Obama didn’t hear any of Rev. Wright’s speeches in church.

From the Washington Post in July:

In the four years since he stepped down as Fannie Mae’s chief executive under the shadow of a $6.3 billion accounting scandal, Franklin D. Raines has been quietly constructing a new life for himself. He has shaved eight points off his golf handicap, taken a corner office in Steve Case’s D.C. conglomeration of finance, entertainment and health-care companies and more recently, taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.

From the Washington Post in August:

In the current crisis, their biggest backers have been Democrats such as Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Dodd (Conn.) and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (Mass.). Two members of Mr. Obama’s political circle, James A. Johnson and Franklin D. Raines, are former chief executives of Fannie Mae.

But I guess we should just take Obama’s campaign spokesman’s word for it.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Franklin Raines, former Clinton Budget Director and disgraced CEO of Fannie Mae, has not been an official advisor to the Obama campaign.

I don’t know how you tell an official adviser from an unofficial adviser, Bat, but it’s clear to me (from the reporting I just cited) that Raines was advising Obama’s campaign either way.
