Time Magazine: Economy Is So Bad Illegal Immigrants Are Going Home

Sure morons.  Why not?  It must be the recession (you know, the one that hasn’t actually happened yet) that’s making it harder for illegal immigrants to find jobs and thus forcing them to leave the country and not all that extra enforcement we’ve been seeing from the federal government lately.

Discussion question: Are the journalists responsible for this shoddy excuse for an article really so stupid as to believe that our economy has sunk to a point where going back to Mexico looks good or are they just liberal hacks pushing a political agenda?

Comments

Real immigrants don’t leave because things are a little slow, but invaders/parasites do.  That’s all they’re here for: to feed off of our prosperity.  They’re not here to make a real contribution to our country.

The illegals that are here doing the construction jobs are going back because the construction jobs are not here.  Half of those guys are here to work and bring money back to Mexico.

If those construction companies wouldn’t hire them, they wouldn’t’ come either.

The story needs to be specific, and I am sure it was.  I would wager you aren’t sophisticated enough to have understood the argument.

Hannitized you don’t have a fucken clue, you are nothing more than a two bit idiot. What the fuck are you’re talking about? The illegal invaders are going home because they know if they get deported they will never get a chance at shamesty.

What am I talking about Goon?  Well, why not read the article, you brainless twit!

The main culprit, says report author Rakesh Kochhar, is job loss in the Latino-heavy construction sector.

First, the numbers: the Hispanic jobless rate — immigrant and native-born alike — climbed to 6.5% in the first quarter of ‘08 (non-Hispanics are at 4.7%). Compare that to late 2006, when Hispanic unemployment rates got closer than ever before to non-Hispanic rates, at 4.9% to 4.4%. Latinos have lost a lot of ground, particularly the immigrants among them. Their immigrant unemployment rate is 7.5% now; for those who have arrived since 2000, it’s 9.3%.

The report doesn’t distinguish between illegal and legal immigrants, but it’s known that illegal workers are overrepresented in construction, the industry that has taken the the biggest lumps.

I didn’t even read the article, and I knew what it would say?  Why?  Because I debated this issue for two frickin years over at FreedomFolks.

Yes, I know what I am talking about Goony-goohu.  It is painfully obvious that it is you who be the ignant between the two of us.

What the article is suggesting, I am certain....I only read as far as I needed to cut and paste the evidence, is that the candidates don’t have to talk about immigration as much because they suspect the American people will start to see it be less of an issue, as the construction workers leave and return to Mexico.

The farm workers will still need to come as they are needed and will be paid.  But they wont face the same scorn of the American public because few Americans want to work those jobs.  They are mostly transient workers who go from field to field on work visas anyway.  The rest are illegals.

YOU don’t know what you are talking about you idiot.  Debate me.  I beg of you to take me up on this challenge.

The profound stupidity of that statement deserves several responses.  None of which should be intelligent because it is a waste of time, to attempt to get through to your thick skull and nimble mind.

However, for the sake of my viewing audience, I will elaborate.

A) Illegals weren’t crossing the border for the last 30 years because they believed Amnesty was going to some day be a reality.  They were crossing the border for JOBS.  Immigration increased as the jobs went from working fields to construction and contracting.

Immigration reform is a hope for them, not THE reason to cross the border.

B) If there ever was a more promising time for illegals, it is today with two presidential candidates who supported immigration reform.

C) There are a lot of immigrants who are leaving as a result of enforcement, true.  But it’s not the only reason.

If any of you are familiar with working construction or contracting you would know how important it is to bid jobs accurately.  Change Orders can dramatically impact profit levels.  Who do you think some subs are using to do these Change Orders?  I can tell you because I have seen it with my own two eyes.  My Repubican business partner hired two illegals from Mexico to do the change orders and odd jobs around the site.

When work is plentiful the American workers are already working OT and getting major bucks, worker shortages require new means to fill their shoes.  That is where the Mexicans came in.  Now, those same American workers need that OT, they need those change order to make more money....or, they become transient construction workers themselves.

I will wager you know not what you are talking about Goon.

I am looking forward to your response.  I need a chuckle.

My money is on ‘liberal hacks’.

They have to drive home the argument that this economy is about to be the Great Depression 2.0.  Anything else would help McCain.

Hannitized,
We’re seeing the illegal population dwindle substantially (in Indiana) as building permits decline and the last of the boom market projects subside (many projects shelved). A lot of these were concrete, drywall, and bricklayer positions that pay pretty well, so it’ll be interesting to see how the void is filled if there is a resurgence in the housing market.

We’ve already seen a decline in agricultural migrants as more and more farmers mechanize (especially tomato farmers).

I know this comment is only distantly related to this topic, but since I don’t have a reader blog I’m hoping someone will take this and start a new thread.

Since a large proportion of these people are “illegals” I figured this thread was a good place to post this.  The full report, which I suggest for reading is available at http://www.state.gov.  49MB download.

The 2008 Human Trafficking Report is out, and was mentioned briefly on CNN yesterday:

“ The department’s annual “Trafficking in Persons Report” found increased allegations of forced labor made in connection with a variety of agricultural products and manufactured goods in developing countries.

In Brazil, the report found a “trafficking phenomenon.” It said thousands of trafficked and forced laborers had been found on plantations growing sugar cane for Brazil’s booming production and export of the biofuel ethanol.”

My point is that I’m sick of other countries and certain well known libers and dems, beating up the USA for not being “perfect” when this kind of thing is rampant and either ignored or actively supported throughout the rest of the world.  Compared to most countries, we are saints.

My view on the discussion question:

I think journalism is like most industries; it’s out to make money.  The more sensational a story is, the more people seem to read it; the more they read the story, the more people know the journalist’s name...and then it’s easier for that journalist to get prestigious, higher-paying jobs.

The bad thing about this is that it tempts some journalists to write about anything and everything in such a sensational way that it distorts the true issues.  I don’t think all of them are that way, but it only takes a few to plant the seeds of change in public opinions (and give the industry a bad name in the process).

Maybe they don’t even believe what they write.  Who knows?  But you would HOPE they would have the integrity to write only about things that they can believe in.

If indeed illegals are leaving for whatever reason I say ‘good riddance’.  Anyway you look at it, an exoduas of illegals is a gain for our country.

Both great points Hoss.  I do think Mechanization of the farm work is helpful to solving the problems.

People like DocDave don’t understand what happens when we loose that part of the puzzle.  If the housing demand returns, building and maintaining them will be dramatically more expensive without the immigrant workers.

They will complain about the costs, but not care that they brought it onto themselves.

I can’t say that I completely disagree.  I rather Americans have a chance to have jobs, but I also know that there would be fewer home owners a lot more problems with families who couldn’t make their mortgagees if the homes they purchased had cost them more, due to the expense of creating them.

Hannitized on June 5, 2008 at 09:20 am

dd: True that.  Despite all the lies about raising prices, the truth is that the invaders/parasites don’t pay their own way.  Their overall cost to us is greater than whatever they might contribute.  We are far better off without them.

Shanitized, I know exactly what I am talking about, I asked a BP agent why so many of the Illegal Aliens were going home because I had read this defeatocrat/leftard propaganda they said it is because ILLEGAL ALIENS think that they will get a better shake if a democrat is president and they know they can’t not get citizen ship if they have been deported.

This is a true fact: if you are an illegal alien that has been deported you have to wait 10 years before you can apply for citizenship to the United States.

True Fact: What people don’t know is most people that are deport usually never get citizenship. It is also a crime to be in this country illegally. Contrary to what the left would like to think or spin. If the illegal invaders are arrested for a crime they can and probably will be charged with the crime they have committed as well as the crime of entering the country illegally. Hence these Illegal will be put into jail if the crime is serious enough and warrants incarceration after their term in jail these alien will then be deported after they are released from Jail.

So Yes I know what I am talking about. But go ahead and keep spitting out the moveon.org, George Soros, Barack Obama, leftist agenda but the thruth is the truth. Now go away.

It is indeed a good thing but don’t let Hannatized fool you, they are leaving because they think Obama is going to win and will be knocking at the door if Obama is elected. Also, McCain won’t help much either unless we keep enforcing the Immigration laws.

I think it’s you that are confused as I don’t remember any problems with construction BEFORE the onslaught of illegals.  Besides housing prices have more to do with demand vs supply (see California) and material costs than labor costs (notice how fast a tract house is built from pre-fab framing).

Absolutely! The real Mexican immigrants may find things are a bit tough, but if so, they work harder to make ends meet just like the rest of us. They want to become part of the American society and are willing to put all effort into doing so and that doesn’t mean packing it in and going to back the poverty stricken Mexico economy.
The “invaders/parasites” are finding our economy isn’t accommodating their “something for nothing” work attitudes. Our economy today is offering nothing for nothing… and they realize they can get that back in Meeeheeco, so why stay?
