Tim Russert RIP

Wow, talk about sudden, the host of Meet the dePressed died suddenly on the job today.

That’s scary.

Condolences from the Say Anything family to Mr. Russert’s family.

WASHINGTON - Tim Russert, NBC News’ Washington bureau chief and the moderator of “Meet the Press,” died Friday after a sudden heart attack at the bureau, NBC News said Friday. He was 58.

Russert was recording voiceovers for Sunday’s “Meet the Press” program when he collapsed, the network said. No details were immediately available.

He was one TV newsperson I really liked--I feel he was fair most of the time and could ask tough questions of both political sides. I am very sorry about this and give his family my prayers and condolensces.

I wonder if his recent trans-Atlantic flights were a factor.
I’ll miss his interviews.

Kevin on June 13, 2008 at 03:16 pm

He would ask the hard questions most of the time, no matter who was in the seat across from him.

Rest in peace. Ah! Who am I kidding, he has likely already started digging for an indepth interview as we speak. He died doing what he loved. Few can claim that distinction.

He was a liberal, an unabsahed liberal. He always pounced on conservatives on his show, doing all he could to destroy them, while treating liberals generally with kid gloves. He was a propaganda minister for the DNC, the Left and Socialism. He was in short, a Leftist.

Kindly in appearance, a gentlemen in manner, intelligent, hard working, if his own self-promotion can be believed he loved his family and was generally a decent person. He was a skilled interviewer and solid television anchor.

Now which Tim Russert are you conservatives crying for tonight? He was an enemy of everything you believed, an extreme partisan, but because it came is a chubby, kindly package we should lower the flags to half staff and declare a national day of mounring?

The man will be missed by many and even by those on the opposite side of the political spectrum, that is as it should be if he was mostly a decent man; but are we now to deify him in death, make him something greater than he was in life? Yeah, after all everyone here has shed many tears over Teddy Kennedy’s illness, so hypocrisy thy name is conservative. I know I felt sad that Hitler had to die at such a young age, Saddam, Mao and Arafat too.

During the race for Senate, Russert grilled Claire McCaskcal, stopping just short of calling her a liar in her comments that she hadn’t accused Bush of murder and racism.

The man was indeed an unabashed liberal. But he could be tough on liberals too.

Even if he was a flaming liberal, he was a nice person by all accounts and we should mourn his passing as decent human beings.

Obama/Biden is not change. It’s more of the same.

Kenny on June 13, 2008 at 04:29 pm

Kenny: I am just asking questions! It bothers me when just because someone gets sick or dies, we can pretend they never said what they said or did what they did.

I saw Russert as much more partisan than you did, I realize my hatred of the Left might prejudice my views of his partisanship.

I agreed he seemed like a nice fellow, it is good to think good of the dead. We should feel sad for the family that loved him and those that admired him as they face this loss. It is the going overboard that bothers me at times like these.

If Bush died tonight, no one on the Left would mourn him or feel sorry for his family. It would be rejoing in the steets that the sonofabitch was dead and in hell! If someone well known of the Left dies, we immediately deify him/her and contort their lives out of all decent proportion.

Just to make it clear; I do pray for his family and friends that they find comfort during the difficult days ahead!

I liked Russert. He was partisan, but he did a decent job grilling Democrats.

Pointing out that Democrats (in general) are filthy heartless pricks, doesn’t mean we should be. And we shouldn’t paint a decent man with the same brush we paint, lets say, Ted Kennedy with.

Pointing out that Democrats (in general) are filthy heartless pricks, doesn’t mean we should be. And we shouldn’t paint a decent man with the same brush we paint, lets say, Ted Kennedy with.

But Kenny, even some of those here at SA, did paint Ted with that same brush that he was really a decent man, despite political differences and we needed to feel his pain and that of his family.

He was partisan, but he did a decent job grilling Democrats.

Well we simply disagree! I think he routinely beat up on conservatives and treated most Lefties with kid gloves. That is my opinion! Which does not mean he was not a decent man, I said that above several times. Again, as you are being so very reasonable; as I said before I am only posing questions here, trying to seriously, honestly understand how we can call a man partisan and an enemy of all our beliefs one day, and because he dies we immediately seem to want to deify him and pretend his former role as our enemy didn’t matter. I am not even judging it, just wondering aloud at the phenomena! I do not understand calling someone on the battlefield that is trying to destroy you and your way of life, even at the point of death, a hail and good fellow, it seems so hypocritical!

Puzzled: What pig god do you pray to? Don’t need em, don’t want them, neither would my family. When low life people like you want to deny a person the right to get mad, even lose his temper in defending his personal honor when attacked, then you have no moral high ground whatsoever to occupy. You never examined the issues, you just jumped naked in bed with Batshit to defend your lover and to hell with the truth or a mans honor!

Kenny: I am too am a damn hypocrite! If I knew or somehow met Tim’s family, I would embrace them, try and comfort and console them and not only not speak of our differences, I would not even think about them. I would be the first to rush in with expressions of genuine concern.

However you shape it, he had a strong role in the leftist media which he relished.  I think a person with ‘real’ principles would have sought employment elsewhere.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

docdave on June 13, 2008 at 06:53 pm

DOcDave: The idea is he was a Liberal, he was a member of a Leftist media, to do so he had to sacrifice something of himself, because he knew it was wrong to silence others in favor of his partisan views. I said it several times, he may have been a decent man in private, I wished him no ill will nor that his family need suffer more than necessary, but I do have questions about what appears to me to be the hypocrisy and duplicity involved in calling someone yesterday we felt was our enemy, a decent man today and so deeply mourn his passing.

Please help me by explaining how a so-called, “decent man,” could participate in a news organization that twisted the news to favor their liberal political ideology. Can he be a truly decent man and work to silence others? Maybe! I am just asking questions, which will irritate some people.

Just as one liberal doesn’t represent an entire group, neither does Nieman classless behavior represent the rights.

Niemans response does not represent all Christians either, how could it?  Most Christians would never confuse the appropriate time to state THEIR OPINIONS of the recently deceits character, with the inappropriate time.  Nieman did!

What this says is that Nieman is a raging asshole who happens to have no class.  Nieman represents himself, quite poorly.

Bill O’Rielly would use a post like this to lash out at all liberals and accuse a site that leaves a post like this up as a hate site.  Is he right?  I think not.  It is the content of the posts that go up that should be measured.

That measurement would surely qualify SAB as a hate site.  But posts like Neiman simply illustrate that classless morons exist on this site, even at the least appropriate time.

Good job Nieman.

1. You obviously cannot read!
2. Not once did I lash out at Russert, from the beginning I only asked questions.
3. On several occasions I mentioned that I had no reason to doubt he was a decent man and that I felt sincere compassion for his family.
4. I admitted that face to face I would be just as hypocritical as anyone; but this is not face to face, this is a place for open and honest discussions, well it used to be, its not anymore.
5. Why are you afraid of honest questions?

Using my own words, in context please show me my sin Point it out to me so I can confess my error.

Ah, his holiness Puzzled engages in judging others, not noticing the huge freaking beam in his own eye. Very Christian of you Puzzled, or are you a faux Christian too?

You want to defend your lover and others, but seem to have no regard for the truth. When did you ever examine the issue that started my angry tirades to determine truth, or was your lovers word alone good enough, damn the facts full speed ahead to defend the lie.

Why is it as a holy man you deny people the right to defend their own words, their own honor. Please look down from your White Throne where you are, as God, Judging me and tell me how you got to be this spotless, sinless creature you now claim to be. If you are not spotless and sinless, how then are you equipped with enough spiritual light to judge me? Hmmm?

As you pray that my family be delivered, considering your own perfect holiness gained and maintained by your own efforts, you are playing God now, so why not play Peter and ask God to slay me on the spot? At least then your assumption of deity will be complete.

I was wrongly attacked, lied about and since speaking in resonable tones in a calm and polite manner didn’t work, at least I feel you all can understand cursing and thereby might accidently hear the truth. I don’t regret the anger, it is directed at a man of lies and dishonor and only used in my personal defense.

Bingo, pparets! It is hard to read through a post filled with hate, yelling, filth et al.  Perhaps I have been harsh as well, but Neiman’s posts can’t be read for substance because the vulgar language and yelling puts off any understanding of content.

Further, on this particular thread, most were giving condolences to a man who died suddenly and he goes on the attack, and then adds that he feels for the family.  Sorry, but it rings hollow.  He wraps his disdain for Russert in a faux sympathy card.  Sorry, not buying it.

Puzzled: How hard it must be for you to play God and judge others and still keep your halo straight. Holy, holy, holy is thy name oh Puzzled, Lord God Almighty!

Pparets:
When we give way to anger in our hearts, over any matter no matter how small; we knowingly open the door to the enemy and give him permission to rule in our lives. Anger knows no friends, and when someone sides with my enemies they too become my enemies. I got tired of the lies, of being attacked for defending what I said against those lies, I got damn tired of trying to do the right thing God’s way, quite frankly this last lie was so clear that I just didn’t care anymore. I want to defend my honor in this incident and the truth against all who would oppose it, even unto my own death.

I know that it is wrong to get angry and to move away from God to side with the enemy of our souls; but if God won’t defend the truth, when I am walking in the Truth, then to hell with it and everyone else. Try and be civil and these cretins just attack, attack and attack, I know that at the very least they understand something when it is loud and dirty. There are times that try men’s souls, there are lies so egregious that nothing else matters but fighting the lies.

Had even one person simply looked at what I said and shown me amd others how it was an attack on Rob or accusing him of something falsely, I would have hated to admit I said something that I didn’t mean to say and I would have swallowed hard and backed off; but I deliberately chose very benign, tame words to express what I believe to be reasonable to assume, without any malice. How can I then bend over and allow the lie to remain? My first attempts were rather civil; but when I saw that this man was deliberately lying about me and would not admit his lie, I got really mad, angrier than I have gotten in decades; and despite the fact I know what happens to our souls in anger and the testimony of Jesus, I just didn’t give a damn anymore, my honor was more important.

This is no apology! I knew the price for my anger, but I was willing to pay it because I hate lies so much. I seek no ones friendship here, no respect, no approval from anyhone. I knew what I was doing and I deliberately chose anger, because I was tired of the lies. I have received several private emails that were very encouraging and kind, while not approving of my anger, those, some liberals, are much appreciated for their genuine concern and kindness.

I won’t waste my time with you, no one is capable of true Love, agape love on their own power, it is totally selfless and always giving, it is God’s Love. To the degree any Christian truly loves someone else, it is Christ in them loving the other person, for the flesh is weak and incapable of love.

You are afraid because you know you lied! You must and will try and spin around this issue until the very end, because you know you are wrong!

I said I gave rule to the devil when I decided to be angry, so I can hardly be called a hypocrite! Still terrified of the truth, heh Bat? You are shaking in your boots, you know your lies will expose you for the fraud you are and you will do anything to keep that issue from people here at SA.

Well, let us see how great a god you are in reading my life story: Pissing my pants hey? Marine Boot Camp, in Vietnam, as a police officer, as the head of a a rescue service, as part of an emergency medical team. Yeah, I was damn scared lots of times. Risked my life many times and helped save a few lives along the way though, I just did it with wet pants and a little fear. Actually, I am lying, I never wet my pants, plenty damn scared a few times though, wondered about the benefits of being a live coward versus being reckless about trying to save others. Almost got killed three times, the last one I was in coma a week, 175 cuts on my face alone.

Now, when and where did your ever risk your life for anyone or anything? When and where did you put it all on the line because you cared about someone else more than your own miserable life? I am sure you did it all with dry pants and lots of medals for your heroism though! Looking to hear a couple of hair raising stories!

Oh, my brother, son, grandson and nephew all fought for the country; one dead, two seriously wounded. I’ll bet they all pissed their pants once or twice.

As often happens, to all of us, your temper and your memory betray you.  We’ve had this conversation before.  Danang, 1966-1967.  On October 26, 1967, I was on an RC135 in the Gulf of Tonkin, where we noted, recorded, and reported that one of the Navy strike aircraft listed on that day’s “Frag Orders”, an A4, I believe, was shot down by an SA-2 over the North.  The pilot punched out, his “guard” beeper went off, and later chatter, both Vietnamese and Chinese, confirmed that he was alive but had been captured.  The pilot was John McCain and his father was, at the time, Deputy CINCPAC.

And, yes, I have the medals, and the DD-214 to prove it.

(All of which ought to also explain my heartfelt contempt for John Kerry.)

Brother, you talk about saving souls, but you SERIOUSLY need to look inward man.

Obama/Biden is not change. It’s more of the same.

Kenny on June 13, 2008 at 11:17 pm

Kenny,

Thank you!

Your concern is admirable, but I suspect offered largely in vain.  Only the foul insults to my family, totally beyond any pretense of decency or honor, really concern me.  If Neiman chooses to isolate himself with his tempermental childishness, that’s his choice.  His contributions are minimal in any case.

Let it go!

This thread started out in a perfectly civil manner.  Posters who rarely agree on anything were commenting on the life of Tim Russert and giving condolences.  Then in toddles Neiman and craps all over the thread.

So I apologize for flinging the crap back.  Sorry.

Damn, me and Puzz on the same wavelength. Thats twice this year, spooky.

Fascinating! Questions about how people detest someone one day and deify them the next, even with sincere expressions of condolences for his family, so threaten you and upset your day. You have a right to your half-assed opinion, I simply disagree with your characterization.

Kenny: You may side with these people and likewise judge someone for simply asking questions, of wanting to explore how we react to these things, that is your right. So, you move to the the dark side of the conservative force here, which I hope you’ll enjoy!

It is funny how these so-called conservatives here demand that everyone react they way they want, demand no one question their opinions, and playing god they daily engage in judging the heart and motives of anyone that does not bow to their will. Conservatism to them means conform to our dogma or die, no tolerance of other views, no right to other opinions; that is why people on the Left fear conservatives, they see that dictatorial spirit in them, that desire to force conformity to their belief system or else. Hitler would be proud!

Neiman on June 14, 2008 at 10:54 am

See, there you go again, Neiman.  Please point to any post where anyone “deified” Russert.  They simply wrote condolences and in your warped mind that is deifying the person who died.

But no, you the faux christian has to toddle in a crap all over the thread.  You are so angry at BatOne for whatever that you troll in and toss in Hitler.

No one is siding with anyone here.  I mean, really Neiman, how often do Hotel and I agree on anything.  Almost never (you’d agree, right, Hotel?) But simply giving condolences is not and I repeat not deifying anyone.

Man, your persecution complex is running rampant.

Maybe time for you to find another blog...I’m just sayin…

I guess your holiness has never heard about judge not lest ye be judged and that with the same measurement you sit in judgment on others, Christ will measure your life by the same standard and pass the same judgment on you that you passed on them? So, since you say I am a false Christian, maybe He will show you how false your profession of faith really is and since you want me out of SA as punishment for not submitting to your will, maybe He help you find cause to move along as well. That is what the passage and teaching means!

Just FYI, BatOne first sugested and then I agreed that wisdom demands we stop all the fighting, just drop the whole thing and move on. It was an act of true manly character for him to first suggest an end to this fight, I am glad it is over.

Whether you like it or not your attacks on me because I dared to question, to try and understand how we react so hypocritically to such celebrity deaths is part and parcel of why the Left fear conservatives, they see in your rigid intolerance of others, even just to examine why we say or do things to be tyrannical and thus Hitlarian in nature. It is people like you that demand submission to your narrow views that make those on the Left fear conservatives, they don’t fear bad language or open debate, but they do fear people like you that want to stifle all debate and who insist that everyone, even fellow conservatives adhere to their narrow dogma or else.

You and Rob are pals, so please for your sake, don’t just invite me to leave SA, for goodness sakes have the guts to go to him and demand I be banned. After all, that is what some very extreme conservatives prefer to do isn’t it? Come on, have some guts and start a campaign to have me banned and while you are at it to establish an SA policy that unless everyone uses language you like and conforms to your right wing dogma they are not allowed to comment here at all.

Have a great day! I sincerely wish you success in banning all forms of speech and people here at SA that do not conform to your narrow beliefs. God bless you and I hope you enjoy your judgmental bigotry against me, it seems to be all you have to enjoy.

Always so much confrontation…

Maybe you should look into Taoism.

Sparkless: To confront those that confront you is bad because ........?

Taoism: Taoist propriety and ethics emphasize the Three Jewels of the Tao: compassion, moderation, and humility. Taoist thought focuses on wu wei (non-action), spontaneity, transformation and emptiness/omnipotence.

Yeah, that sounds attractive, non-action, passivity, appeasement, kind of one step beyond being a vegetarian, they are vegetables. Isn’t this the Carter doctrine?

Yes, by all means, get Sparkie a hankie, stuff it in his mouth and leave it there for a few decades, seems very reasonable to me.

Neiman on June 14, 2008 at 04:43 pm

Do you ever read what you write, Neiman?  I mean really. I actually haven’t professed my faith on this blog the way you do incessantly.  Further, I do not wish to see you banned nor would I.

You just seem so unhappy lately and have utterly filled your posts with hatred and swearing that I just thought you might need to take a break from this blog.

Oh,and just for the record,Neiman, the left doesn’t fear conservatives.  Liberals and conservatives have to different ideologies and we go at it pretty hard on this blog.

But you on the other hand, have gotten so personal and downright nasty lately, that no one really digests the point you are trying to make.  So you get angrier and swear a bit more.  You make yourself out to be some kind of martyr here on this blog.  The whole SA is out to get you and shut you up.

Hardly, you keep digging yourself deeper and deeper and your hatred has taken over any ability you had to make points here.

I’m just sayin.....
You are constantly aggressive and nasty when you express yourself and then fall back on the Bible and Christianity more than anyone else here on this blog.

If anyone dares question you, you say they are judging you when that is exactly what you are doing. You preach the Bible and then talk about your hatred for the left.  This isn’t judging you, this is pointing out what you are writing.

Puzzlefeet on June 14, 2008 at 05:24 pm

Puzzled, and you truly are!

I absolutely, categorically reject all of your false characterizations about me and your deliberate obfuscations and many attempts at misdirection above.

The truth is, you got caught above calling me a false (faux), phony Christian at least twice. I must remind you that a rose by any other name still smells as sweet, and so no matter what you choose to call it to make yourself appear nicer to yourself - how can you face yourself and honestly claim YOU were not judging my spiritual nature and thus by extension my eternal fate, placing yourself on His Throne to do so. You got caught, if you think me a devil or angel (place your bets on the former), you were judging me and are still judging me IMO and I am just saying that according to Jesus with the exact same measuring rod and desire for retribution you are using to judge me; if God is true, that exact same measure must be applied by Him to your life.

Next, you were the one above that invited me to seek out another blog and I was just encouraging you to do more than talk about it, as talk is cheap. If you want to squash opposing thoughts and questions about how we act in certain situations and of course any language that offends you, you should be proactive to save yourself the pain of reading what you hate.

Liberals do think conservatives are mean spirited, judgmental and tyrannical because people on the very far right, like you appear to be wholly intolerant of any opposing views and even in this case, any serious questions asked about how we react to cases of celebrity death. While I despise everything about him, I was very much alive and recall how Ted “I kill my dates” Kennedy in eulogizing Robert, encouraged RFK worshippers not to elevate him in death as being any greater than he was in life, his being just a flawed man. So, I question the degree of deification that goes on after someone dies that normally we oppose in life.

Oh, I have never preached any Christian message at SA, not once. I respond to questions or points made by others with the best explanation of my beliefs on the matter I can muster. What most here hate is any positive mention of faith or Christ, it and He are offensive to most liberals and conservatives today.

Lastly, after your judging me to be a false Christian, a purveyor of hate and anger, please spare me the false tones of concern about my state of happiness or lack thereof, it is hypocritical and false IMO.

Neiman on June 14, 2008 at 06:14 pm

Neiman, of course you would reject my characterization.  Duh, it is my opinion so it doesn’t matter if you reject it or not.

You didn’t catch me calling you anything.  I freely wrote that you are a faux christian, not much to catch there. Wasn’t trying to hide what I wrote, both times.

Boy if talk is cheap you’ve been doing the cheapest talking here for quite some time.  Oh, and you are the only one who reacted to Mr. Russert’s death in the manner you did, so for you to take on the mantle of all conservatives in regard to his death is just a tad bit disingenuous.

But you keep playing the faux christian martyr.  It is what you do best.

Puzzlefeet on June 14, 2008 at 07:37 pm

But you keep playing the faux christian martyr.  It is what you do best.

More unbiblical judging here by you? It must be tough playing god all the time! Remember, He will judge you with the same measure you use to judge me! Don’t say I didn’t warn you! You are caught by your own false judgment of another human being, assuming spiritual superiority over me and the power of deity in the process.

You didn’t catch me calling you anything

I caught you engaging over and over in unChristian judging of my spiritual state by calling me a false Christian. But, you just cannot admit you are wrong to do this can you?

It is you that are digging yourself deeper and deper into a hole.

You are the only one who reacted to Mr. Russert’s death in the manner you did, so for you to take on the mantle of all conservatives in regard to his death is just a tad bit disingenuous

I did not ever, in the smallest way take on the mantle of all conservatives or any conservatives for that matter, I only showed you why liberals hate and fear you conservatives because of your extreme intolerance of others and your tyrannical desire to control the thought os others.

Puzzlefeet on June 14, 2008 at 08:29 pm

It is interesting how liberals will use their faith to attack conservatives. Puzzle, You knew full well by calling Neiman a “faux christian” it would incite rage and ire. This is an election year! As a conservative, I too am angry. I understand where Neiman is coming from! I am sick to death of the commie socialist way of life infiltrating our way of life. However, saying that, I do wish Tim Russert and his family peace.

Zsa Zsa on June 15, 2008 at 04:00 am

Neiman.
I think you’re just a fucking cunt. Irredeemable.

they are vegetables. Isn’t this the Carter doctrine?

So nice of you. I wonder why you don’t get along with people? And you politicized it. Speaking of silly effing religions, here’s one for you

the Holy Trinity, espoused in the Nicene Creed, is one God who exists in three Persons – Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – who are coequal, co-eternal, of the same substance. “Father, Son and Holy Spirit” represents both the immanence and transcendence of God.

Yeah, that sounds attractive, magic, bullshit, infinity, kind of one step beyond being an acid freak, they are idiots.

If you don’t like it when people diss on your pathetic little make believe God, maybe you should be a nicer man. All your claims to virtue and anything remotely Christian are so much bullshit. Go kill some minorities, ‘vegetables’, and calm down. Clearly, you’ve got it right. Why listen? Why even attempt to interact? You dont have even a workable idea what’s going on here:

To confront those that confront you is bad because ........?

Actually, you came out of nowhere, seething with hatred of the dead. Grow up.

Awww, gees, ZsaZsa, I didn’t use my faith at all in responding to Neiman.  You might want to go back reread the entire thread before you comment again.

That you are sick and tired of “commie socialist way of life” when the President is a republican and the repubicans have been in charge of congress until 2006 doesn’t say much.

The thread, my friend, Zsa Zsa, was about the death of Tim Russert.

“our way of life”, has included social security and medicare, as our way of life, those programs you consider to be commie and socialist.  The vast majority of Americans support these programs and want these programs.  Is anyone in your family receiving any benefits from these programs?

And again for the record, I did not bring my religion into the thread.  Neiman and you are the experts at that.

Okay, I didn’t catch that “we” word I used and even though I didn’t intend to make it as if I am speaking for conservatives, it does appear that I was.

Puzzle, I thought you had professed your “faith” on this blog? Forgive me, BUT I am almost certain you made a comment about your Catholic upbringing. You freely attack Neiman and his religion and now you are attacking me!  This is or was supposed to be about Tim Russert. NOT Neiman and your accusations of his “Faux” Christianity.

Zsa Zsa on June 15, 2008 at 11:57 am

ZsaZsa, I did not “profess” my faith. On another thread a while back I did describe my Catholic background.  That is hardly professing my faith.

You wrote:

You made a generalized statement with regard to my comments so I naturally assumed you were including me in your comments about liberals attacking conservatives.

You’re right, tho, it was supposed to be a thread about Tim Russert.  Neiman took it out of that realm and I responded, just like you did.

You started railing about how you are so angry that your way of life is being “infiltrated” by the so-called “commie socialists”.  And that’s not an attack...I’m just sayin....
