Thomas Sowell on Barack Obama

Here’s Thomas Sowell, Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow at The Hoover Institution, on why conservatives ought not be swayed by “...no more serious reasons than his mouth and his complexion.”

Here is a man who has consistently aided and abetted people who have openly expressed their contempt for this country, both in words and in such deeds as planting bombs to advance their left-wing agenda.
Despite the spin that judging Obama by what was said or done by such people would be “guilt by association,” he has not just associated with such people. He has in some cases donated some serious money of his own and even more of the taxpayers’ money, as both a state senator in Illinois and a member of the U.S. Senate.
Barack Obama is on record as favoring the kinds of justices who make policy, not just carry out laws. No matter how he may “refine” his position on this issue, he voted against the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts, who was easily confirmed by more than three-quarters of the Senators.

Obama is to the far left of his party, not just the country. Hope must have a basis in truth, or it is a false hope.  His vote against Chief Justice Roberts is indicative of the type of judges Obama would appoint for life.

I’m probably not the best judge as to whether or not Obama is the MOST liberal Democrat. I know that I am probably much more liberal than Obama, but I don’t consider myself a Democrat. My question is this: wouldn’t it better serve “truth” if you quoted text from a moderate or centrist source? The Hoover Institution is one of the most conservative think tanks in the United States. There seems to be a parallel. The Hoover Institution (whose reactionary economic policies must be partially responsible for the current recession) was founded by the President who triggered the Great Depression. In 2005, a poll conducted by The Wall Street Journal (a “conservative” newspaper) ranked Hoover as one of the worst Presidents. I sincerely apologize for ranting, didn’t mean to pull out the troll card. I wish you health and happiness.

The Wall Street Journal… ranked Hoover as one of the worst Presidents

Therefore Sowell’s opinion is chopped liver?

According to the National Journal, Obama has the highest liberal rating of all of the Senate. 95.5%

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Voteview has Obama in the top ten most liberal.

Voteview.com, a site created by political scientists that plots lawmakers on a liberal-conservative scale based on their voting patterns, calculated that nine senators were more liberal than Obama in the current Congress.

Luke,

The glib response would be to note that in true “left of Obama” form, you are extraordinarily careless with the words you use.  Instead, I’d like to see if you can capably defend what you’ve written.

For starters, please explain exactly which “reactionary economic policies are partially responsible for the current recession.” You’ll get extra points for a truthful recitation of what is, and what is not, a recession.  There is also a bonus to be had if you can actually document those “reactionary economic policies” of the Hoover Institute and specifically relate them to those put in place by a nominally Republican president and a leftwing Democrat Congress.

Your second challenge is to detail specifically how President Herbert Hoover “triggered” the Great Depression.  The implication of what you’ve stated is that Hoover was directly responsible, rather than merely the individual in office at the time.  That said, I’d like to see if you can actually back up that assertion.

Understand, I’m not interested in the sort of platitudes and pap that normally pass for wisdom among those of you on the radical Left.  In both cases, if you can’t back up your claims with specific details and specific citations, then obviously the “truth” of your own leftist ranting is called into serious question.
