This Week Is “Support Say Anything” Week

I’ve never done this before, but given the rise in popularity of this blog over the last few years (spurring a rise in the amount of money and my time it takes to keep this blog going), I’ve decided to give it a shot.
I’m having a blog donations drive this week to raise a little money toward the maintenance of the blog and future upgrades. There are two ways to do it. One is to make a one-time donation, which you can do clicking below (all you need is a credit card, you don’t need a PayPal account):

Or you can become a subscriber, signing up for a monthly $5 donation (again all you need is a credit card, no PayPal account required):

If you don’t want to donate, no problem. All the content on the blog is going to remain free. Those that donate don’t get anything special outside of my gratitude.
So if you’ve got a few bucks and you enjoy this blog, throw them in the hat. Or sign up for a recurring donation. Or, heck, buy some advertising. Every little bit helps.
If you don’t have a few bucks, or you just don’t feel like donating, no big deal. Just ignore these posts this week.

I think she owes you big time now.

Referring to parents that are not together, of course. Not all fathers are ‘deadbeat dads’, so how is it that the mother can take away all his rights?

Nonetheless, I’d love to be able to click “hide” on the comments of certain individuals who provide zero additional content (think about the way facebook works).

The subscription thing is a good idea. I get time, I’ll set it up with my paypal account.

  • sayanything-2

Got to help them leftards heads keep ‘splodin’!!

  • sayanything-342

My “left” return arrow doesn’t work on your site. Only your site. Why is that? I have to use “home” every time.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

We leftists volunteer our time to correct many of the conservative lies on this site, we’re fact-checkers …

If only that were true! Instead, you just tell lies about conservatives! And as far as fact checking, I’m so seldom wrong that I actually welcome the novelty of being corrected! Unfortunately, facts are not the Left’s strong suit!

    we’re working free of charge.

    And grossly overpaid.

  • sayanything-2227

I’ll agree that it’s sad to look a the comments of a post hoping for thoughtful discussion and good point/counter point arguments and instead seeing those folks blathering away contributing nothing thoughtful at all. That being said can’t we just ignore them instead of feeding/banning them? That is my $.02.

  • sayanything-2227

Ahh what the hell.. what’s $5 / month.

As long as it doesn’t go to the “Rob Port Pabst and Whiskey fund” .

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Proof was wrong once when he claimed that conservatives aren’t collectivists

Refresh my memory, I don’t remember saying that. Can you give us a link, or at least the context in which I supposedly said it. Then we’ll discuss whether I was wrong or not.

  • sayanything-342

    Rob,

I bought a new PC several months ago and I have Vista and it is flaky. Maybe that’s it.

note to everyone. DON’T USE VISTA

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Ah, yes! I remember. It was a year ago March…you said that John McCain sounded like a Stalinist. I said:

The “greater cause” is not collectivist at all, at least not in the Stalinist sense! Too much protein deprivation has rotted your brain, AV! Have a cheeseburger!

There ya go, Rob. A saw buck is all I can go right now, seems some jacka$$s have torpedoed the economy, starting to cut into my ammo funds!

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

BTW, I stand by my earlier statement: Not in the Stalinist sense.

    I’m not making any promises.

Why not show your dedication to free enterprise and capitalism? I’ll pay you $10 a month if you get rid of Dino, Lock ‘em Up, RBB, Sparkie and a few others. They provide nothing at all in the way of even the slightest attempt at intellectual justification of liberalism. Compared to actual thinking leftists, they’re not even pond scum. I’ve jousted with people who can quote Derrida and Descartes, Focault and Franco. ALL of those on this blog who can work on that level are NOT liberals.

Maybe you like shooting fish in a barrel or providing bait to trap the idiots of the left, but it’s a waste of time unless you want to provide a Jerry Springer level of analysis. All I see when I come by here is Dino, Sparkie, etc. far more than I see the others’ names. When I see those names, I know there’s going to be nothing intelligent being said by any of them, and all they are doing is angering the others and dragging everything off to be about them. I myself just want to slap Dino more than anything else. The block script allowed us to get rid of them, but Disqus took that away.

I’ll pay to get rid of the hack lefties.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Well, Obama supports take-overs of the private sector. I’m not sure that makes him explicitly socialist, but he certainly trends that way.

And ACORN is systemically corrupt. From the top down.

But I do think Obama is a citizen.

What frightens me is that you’re so blinded by rank partisanship that you can’t even admit that ACORN is fraudulent.

Meaning your comments here are more for my amusement than anything else. But your contributions to my amusement are appreciated!

  • spartacus

    WTF

Uh, T.W., you know that after Monday And Tuesday the rest of the week says WTF too!

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Thanks Randy, I really appreciate it.

you seem to be commenting just fine. I thought you couldn’t log in?

if you want to change your avatar, just change it the old way. If you change it on SAB it will change for your disqus account.

We leftists volunteer our time to correct many of the conservative lies on this site, we’re fact-checkers and we’re working free of charge.

Without us you’d all descend into rightie conspiracy theories like: Obama is a socialist, Obama was not born in America, ACORN is systemically corrupt, blah, blah, blah…

(Except that conservatives are immune to evidence making our efforts ultimately pointless?)

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

You mean your back button on your browser?

I have no idea. But I do know that this blog has, over time, become an unsightly mess of code on the back end. I’d like to have someone start from scratch and built it all again. Keep the same format and look, just clean things up.

Going on seven years, and after multiple hosting/platform moves, things have been getting a little creaky on the back end.

  • sayanything-4808

While the stoic view that it is entirely in ourselves is purely true, it is not reality with regard to emotion. The more the lefties show up and act like boneheads, the more they troll, the more they state blatant lies as facts and do so specifically picking subjects that they know will get under the skin, the harder ignoring them gets.

It only works in theory. This is one of the reasons most forums eventually install scripts themselves to let people ignore and start actively kicking trolls. This blog is not a simple blog where the blogger principal makes good posts and thoroughly covers everything. It’s a forum where the principal posts something provocative and the followers then engage in a back and forth and flesh out points, hopefully.

Dino SHOULD HAVE been banned when he joked about ejaculating in a young boy’s mouth. Or before that when he said cops deserve to be shot. This is not public property where people are operating under the first amendment, this is a private site. Rob’s discretion and not a constitutional aspect is what keeps Dino here or anyone else. That calls into question Rob’s judgment by anyone new who sees Dino’s asinine posts and the incongruency between them and the theme of the site.

NOT a good way of building readership. It’s like knowing full well that your product has a serious first-blush drawback and keeping it for no good reason and fighting uphill against it despite knowing you could save yourself the pain by getting rid of the unnecessary impediment.

NO, I am not a world-class blogger, nor have I attempted to be. I use my blog to sound off. Rob is actually trying to build something. Anyone who has been on the Internet for any length of time and has more than a few brain cells can see what the existing top shelf blogs have done to get there. Tolerating an out and out troll like Dino is NOT one of those things. It should not have to get to the point where people are willing to pay you to get the trolls out. Buzz should not have been running loose all that time. Sparkie’s constant non-sequitur posts that have the classic signs of drunkenness, RBB’s pathological obsession with inserting gop into everything and shitting up the reader blogs for NO reason other than he loads the sidebar with HIS name and HIS annoying post titles… That’s not an attraction for anything other than distracting anger.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Thanks to everyone who has donated and subscribed so far.

I wasn’t expecting that kind of a reaction.

I’m actually working with Disqus on some updates. Right now we’re working on getting the HTML short cuts back. I’ll ask about the ignore feature.

The possiibility of that development is one of the big reasons why I went with Disqus.

Again, thanks for everyone who has contributed.

  • spartacus

Done, and thanks for providing the forum Rob! As for most of the previous comments, although I lean toward agreeing with them I’ll reserve my judgment. Let’s see if any of the mentioned characters, and a few others are willing to pony up to help out or if they’re just sponging.

  • sayanything-256

It was in a thread you started where you said that conservatives don’t love war. Somehow collectivism and the military came up. Rob’s search function kinda sucks though. (In his defense search engine stuff is pretty tricky.)

  • sayanything-6955

    When were you wrong?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Hey, you didn’t have to give anything at all. But I’m glad you did.

    Thanks so much.

  • sayanything-6955

I am one of those who got on board just before the tea parties, you folks do a hell of a job, so I just made a donation, and will so again. Keep up the good work Rob and co.

  • sayanything-40

$20 paid, and another vote to be able to selectively block trolls.

  • sayanything-256

Mickey, what web browser are you running? Firefox seems to work ok under Vista for me. But I mostly use Firefox within Ubuntu, a free (as in freedom) operating system.

Randy-G, Proof was wrong once when he claimed that conservatives aren’t collectivists. If you’re willing to die for: Gods, countries, constitutions, free-markets, or any other collectivist ideologies, then you’re a collectivist.

You see, such a sacrifice is forfeiting your own life to benefit the ideology. An individualist would not do this.

  • sayanything-6955

Yea I have had vista for a cpl years, It takes a while to get around the quirks.
