Thirteen Year Old Boy Suspended From School For Drawing Picture Of A Gun

Sigh...

A 13-year-old boy has been suspended for three days by an Arizona public school because he sketched a picture that resembled a gun, something school officials said they “absolutely” believed could pose a threat.

According to a report by KPHO-TV in Phoenix, it’s not the type of greeting the Mosteller family expected when they moved from Colorado Springs to Chandler, Ariz., a few weeks ago.

“My son is a very good boy,” Paul Mosteller told the television station. “He doesn’t get into trouble. There was nothing on the paper that would signify that it was a threat of any form.”

The principal at Payne Junior High School kept the actual drawing, and officials with the Chandler Unified School District declined to release any information about the situation.

Here’s the drawing:

That’s not a gun.  That’s a crude representation of a street.  But even if it’d been a spot-on accurate depiction of an AK-47, would it matter?  It’s just a drawing.  In my middle school kids routinely wrote stories about their experiences hunting and sport shooting.  They even...gasp...brought in pictures of themselves holding rifles and shotguns!

Next thing you know schools will be suspending kids for thinking about guns.

But you know what would stop inanity like this?  School vouchers.  I’ll bet this school’s administrators wouldn’t be so quick to mete out suspensions for things as minor as drawings of guns if the parents could just pull their kid out and go down the street to the nearest private school.

It looks more like a flag to me??? How ridiculous to get suspended.

It gets a lot worse.

At Drake High School in Marin County in California, two boys wrote a joke “hit list” in class. They giggled as they named students for things like “looking at Mary’s breasts”, “not looking at Mary’s breasts”, “farting in Math”, “not farting in Math”, etc.

Still giggling, the list was thrown in the garbage can as the boys left the room. The teacher fished the list out of the garbage can and ran to the Vice Principal’s office. The Vice Principal called the police and called in the students who’s names were on the list telling them that their name had appeared on a hit list. The students called home. Their parents started calling other parents and many parents started calling the school and pulling their kids out of school.

The Math teacher ran crying and screaming down a hallway that, “We’re all gonna die. We’re all gonna die”.

The police arrived, looked a the list, talked to the boys, and determined that the list was a bad joke that was never intended for any harm.

One of the boy’s fathers was called in for a meeting and told by the teacher and Vice Principal that, “We have to take these things seriously”.

As educator salaries have fallen behind inflation, we have failed to attract the most capable people to teach our children and administer our school systems.

Actually, it’s a representation of a laser gun. What I am really curious about is if there was some type of verbal description spoken along with this sketch. Either way, It’s hard to judge one way or another since we obviously don’t have complete details.
Of course, it seems ludicrous and I agree but, at the same time, public authorities are constantly wedged in between a rock and a hard place. They’re damned if the do and damned if they don’t.
Because of what our society has become, responsibility no longer lies on the person who actually is responsible. Unfortunately, we now walk around with the words “sue me” sharpied on our forehead.

Teacher pay is fine.  What state-run education has done is create a class of unthinking automatons who indoctrinate instead of educate.  Stupid cases like those described above are just a symptom of that.

Teachers as a whole are better paid than any other white collar profession except for lawyers and judges. You’ve got to pretty much have your head embedded in the mud to not be aware of that.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

That’s not where he traditionally keeps his head and this case is no different.

The total lack of anything remotely resembling common sense in cases like this is astounding. Where the hell do these people get their degrees, Short Bus U?

Well, I for one, received my Psych degree, Soc degree, Food Science degree, and Ed degree from an Eastern Washington University. When I was able to find the time to remove my head from the mud or my ass, I received my Masters in Education and an additional degree in Comp Science from the University of Washington. I am currently working on Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Arts Technology.

Ok, Puppy dog… I believe we are about to have a discussion.

I did, and may I add, asking someone to do something is much more cordial than telling them.

OK, as for the article you linked, I will admit I do agree with some of it but, sadly .... very little of it.
I was hoping for some actual data , stats, references, etc.

Don’t think it matters.  The lefties are in control of our universities these days especially in the non-tech fields and they are very busy indoctrinating the vulnerable students to their thinking.

Wow, This is just unbelievable. No more toy guns, they look to real. No more hand gestures that simulate the firing of a gun. No more pictures of guns. Lets just make every kid damn scared of a gun, what kind of stupidity is this?

What are they trying to do here make children into wimps? Johnny just drew a picture of a gun shooting his teacher He needs psychological therapy.

A Suicidal Tendencies Institutionalized world come true. No more cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians in the school yard kids, its just to violent.

Damn.

I think I’ll, uh, go club something in the heade and drag it home. Yeah. That’ll make me feel better. In the words of Yoda, “humbled, I am.”
