The True Goal Of The “Stimulus” Spending: It’s All About The Unions

Sure. Why not. The auto bailouts were about propping up America’s unionized domestic auto industry for the UAW. Why wouldn’t the “stimulus” be about preserving government jobs for the public workers’ unions?

Public-sector employment peaked at 22.6 million in August 2008. It fell a bit in 2009, then has rebounded back to 22.5 million in November. That’s less than a 1 percent decline.
This is not an accident; it is the result of deliberate public policy. About one-third of the $787 billion stimulus package passed in February 2009 was directed at state and local governments, which have been facing declining revenues and are, mostly, required to balance their budgets.
The policy aim, Democrats say, was to maintain public services and aid. The political aim, although Democrats don’t say so, was to maintain public-sector jobs — and the flow of union dues to the public employees unions that represent almost 40 percent of public-sector workers.

The “stimulus” was nothing but a big transfer of wealth from the private sector to the government, and then on to the unions. All paid for with money borrowed from China against our children’s future tax payments.
Because the tax dollars you and I will pay in for the rest of our lives has already been spent.
Hope for change.

And of course the unions are part and parcel of why Arnold is looking for a bailout!

    Democrat slush fund.

  • robert108

Some of us called this at the first of last year.

"The True Goal Of The “Stimulus” Spending: It’s All About The Unions" You just now figuring this out?

Political paybacks are nothing new for either side – not that it's right, just not new. The part of this one though that should alarm anyone who can rub two brain cells together is the SEIU has all the ear-marks of becoming Obama's brown/purple-shirts. They're not there yet, but give it time.

Bend over and don't expect the reach around

  • http://hegeeks.com markotu

It's always about unions, damn polititians

  • hannitized

    Yeah…….that's it.

  • I don't like to

When will you cons realize how dumb it sounds to say "the government wants power" "the government is greedy" "it's about the unions"? We are the government. The unions aren't squat without the rest of the country. You guys are fooling yourselves.

Ya know what? You are kind of right. It is about a union, The Union. The United States of America. Of course that's off your radar because you cant see past party affiliation.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

So, in other words, if we're not ok with porking up the unions then we're traitors to the Union?

Wow. Not even sure how to respond to that.

  • robert108

    "We are the government."

You repeat Marx's lie. In this country, we elect the govt, which is supposed to implement our wishes, but this greedy govt is trying to ram a fascist healthcare down our throats with midnight deals and bribery, while over 80% of us don't want their scheme.
The unions, being exempt from antitrust legislation, have special rights, and are abusing them to rip us off and to become our ruling elite.
    Wake up!

  • sayanything-42

    I know…

Slash all Government work forces by 10% and reduce the salaries of those who remain by 20% to get then back in line with the private sector! Also cap guarantees of retirement pay at $60,000/year per retiree.

I've always felt that the typical democrat was no different than those fat cat Republicans who manipulate the system for their benefit. The only real difference is that democrats hang with a lower class crowd, ie unions.

  • I don't like to

    Thanks for reinforcing my point.

  • I don't like to

Were you watching TV when you read my comment? Cuz I said nothing of the sort.

I guess when you can't respond to a comment, you just change the comment. Good Republican.

You lie; I refuted your Marxist BS.

The govt, especially this totalitarian one, is separate from the people. Are you really too stupid to understand plain English?

  • sayanything-5371

That's one hideous beast right there holding up that sign. Typical union thug.

  • I don't like to

    Nope. Not true.

  • sayanything-342

I didn't include "ALL" republicans in that comment. There is a huge difference between conservatives and the old WASP GOP. As far as democrats go in this administration they are nothing but socialist scum suckers and do not in any way represent the republic in unity.

  • sayanything-3444

And the fact that SEIU head Andrew Stern was THE most frequent WH visitor last year is just a coincidence right? What a freakin' joke Obama and company have played on the people.

  • sayanything-2

Is anyone else having problems following email notification links to threads?

  • sayanything-15427

No IDLTGOP you are wrong. We are supposed to be the top of the food chain when it comes to Government. The Citizen is supposed to be in charge, all elected government officials are supposed to be "Public Servants".

The problem is that those in power do not believe this any longer. They are no longer in power to represent the people, they are in power TO STAY IN POWER. They use whatever means necessary, bribe whoever they have to with other peoples money, and cut deals with Unions for political and personal gain. They don't care any longer what "the people want". They believe that once they have been elected they either A) Have a mandate to do what they feel is right instead of what they are told. Or B) Whatever it takes to stay in office no matter what the people say, and no matter what they campaigned on.

This Government has also grown its departments and bureaucracies to HUGE levels. Look how much power the FDA and EPA have among others. They do not answer to the American Public and so they have nearly unlimited power to create rules and regulations that have no basis in law but must be backed up by Executive power and prosecuted by the Judicial. Congress drags its feet on Cap-n-Trade so the EPA says "Nevermind, we will just do it for you" and there is no debate and no input from the American People.

The government as it is IS greedy, they want MORE power, and the Unions are a ready made voting block/enforcement arm of the Democrat party. Well, as long as they get their cut…

I don't get thread notifications anyway, the only time I did was when I was logged in through Disqus but not SAB. I could probably change it but that would fill my inbox up quickly on some days.
