The Successor To Reverend Wright - Abraham Was A “Pimp” And Tupac A “Prophet”

Nice.

You know, I don’t care how people worship, no matter how silly or controversial their beliefs are. That’s well within the category of “their business”. But what I don’t understand is why, when a supposed “Christian” minister makes statements like this that there isn’t a stampede to the exits:

Barack Obama has finally distanced himself from Rev. Jeremiah Wright after a 20-year relationship, but the pastor who is replacing Wright at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ is likely to be just as controversial.

New Trinity pastor Otis Moss has called Biblical patriarch Abraham a “pimp” and made other statements many would consider offensive.

That’s not all. Here is the type of person he considers worthy of praise:

But a videotape of a sermon he delivered at Wright’s church shows this “wonderful young pastor” referring to “ghetto prophets” and “thug theology,” calling the late rapper Tupac Shakur a “prophet,” and reciting at length lyrics to Shakur’s song “Thugz Mansion.”

Tupac. Yeah, there’s a fine example of humanity. That is, if mysogynistic, foul mouthed, crime promoting gangsters are who you want to look up to, of course.

Oh….and who called this guy a “wonderful young pastor”? Why, the man who could be our nest president, that’s who:

After Obama called Wright’s comments “divisive and destructive,” a questioner noted that Rev. Moss has defended Wright and asked if Obama would continue attending the church.

“Well, the new pastor, the young pastor, Reverend Otis Moss, is a wonderful young pastor,” Obama responded. “And as I said, I still very much value the Trinity community.”

Like I said, I don’t care how you worship. If you want to swing a dead cat around your head by the light of the full moon naked in a cemetary because that’s what charges your religious batteries, go right ahead. It’s your right. And it doesn’t affect anyone except maybe the cat.

In this case, though, I think calling Tupac a “prophet” is a stretch and I mean a big one. And referring to Abraham as a “pimp” is beyond the realm of good taste - and good preaching. His saying things like that from the pulpit aren’t just affecting him. Is this social indoctrination or religion? And as far as I’m concerned anyone who would preach this nonsense has about as much credibility as the guy swinging the above mentioned cat.

Why is this guy’s congregation still flocking around him? I don’t get it.

The only conclusion is that BO agrees with his “church’s”
black theology (in a nutshell:  “get whitey”) which has not changed with a new pastor.  He’s between a rock and a hard place:  If he repudiates his “church,” he will labeled as an “Uncle Tom” by the large contingent of race hustlers in Chicago and elsewhere and the African- American voting monolith may crack.  If he does not, he risks the anger of those “crackers” he insulted in San Francisco.  In my opinion, in either case he is unelectable.

Bat,

They should have come spilling out of the exits like in the staterooom scene from A Night At The Opera. One of the funniest scenes in movie history by the way, but I digress…

Who in their right mind would ever label Tupac a prophet, I mean, besides some wannabe street thug with IQ of an armadillo and the morals of a weasel? Those are intelligent adults in that church. They cannot possibly believe that crap.

There’s something fishy goin’ on here!

Haddock!

Haddock!?  You gotta haddock?  Take two aspirins and call me in the morning!

Believe it?  Of course they believe it.  If they didn’t Trinity United Church of Christ wouldn’t be nearly so successful and Rev. Wright wouldn’t have a new million dollar manse at his disposal compliments of his former congregation.  If they didn’t believe it, they wouldn’t have hired Otis Moss to replace Wright.

And therein lies a huge dilemma for Obama.  He must try to convince a significant majority that he doesn’t believe it, or it doesn’t really matter.  But if he doesn’t really believe it, why was he there for 20 years in the first place?  And if it doesn’t really matter, then what else about the man is simply a cynical facade for the sake of getting elected?

It ain’t easy being Barack Obama.  No doubt, his wife will tell him what to say and do.

Per Rev Wright at TUCC.org:  ” The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology.”  James Cone:  “There is no use for a God who loves white oppressors the same as oppressed blacks. We have had too much of white love, the love that tells blacks to turn the other cheek and go the second mile. What we need is the divine love as expressed in black power, which is the power of blacks to DESTROY THEIR WHITE OPPRESSORS, here and now, by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject God’s love.”

Whitey has become an infidel not only to the moslems but also to the blacks.  So much for civil rights equality.

Another thing - Wright and his colleagues are not real Christians but the personification of evil masquerading as Christians.

One wonders why you all flock around Falwell and Robertson.  These gems were found in a quick trip around Google:
“I would warn Orlando that you’re right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don’t think I’d be waving those flags in God’s face if I were you, This is not a message of hate—this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It’ll bring about terrorist bombs; it’ll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor.” –Pat Robertson, on “gay days” at Disneyworld

”(T)he feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.” –Pat Robertson

“I’d like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don’t turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don’t wonder why he hasn’t helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I’m not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that’s the case, don’t ask for his help because he might not be there.”—Pat Robertson, after the city of Dover, Pennsylvania voted to boot the current school board, which instituted an intelligent design policy that led to a federal trial

God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible and he says ‘This is my land,’ and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, ‘No, this is mine.’ ... He was dividing God’s land. And I would say, ‘Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations, or the United States of America.’ God says, ‘This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.’”—Pat Robertson, on why Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a massive stroke.

Maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up” –Pat Robertson, on nuking the nuking the State Department

“Well, I totally concur.” –Pat Robertson to Jerry Falwell following the Sept. 11 attacks, after Falwell said, “I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way—all of them who have tried to secularize America—I point the finger in their face and say: “You helped this happen.”

“AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharaoh’s charioteers ... AIDS is not just God’s punishment for homosexuals; it is God’s punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.”

More to the point, your adolescent “gotcha” gambit is worthless since Senator McCain has not spent the past 20 years sitting in a pew in either Rev. Robertson’s church or that of Jerry Falwell.

Finally, by resorting to “Oh yeah, well he did it too” diatribe you managed nothing but to validate the criticisms of Wright’s vitriol and Obama’s suspect principles and character.  But then, apparently you had nothing to offer anyway.

Rev. (and I use that title begrudginly) Wright is no Christian. He uses the label to get new attendees that he ‘sells’ with his utter B.S..

His religion is based on one word. ‘MEEK.’ Yet, he preaches (more like ranting) anything but ‘MEEK.‘His words are designed to promote revolution; nothing more!

If you read the Christian Bible then you learn, “Beware of wolves in sheeps clothing.” Well, Wright is but one of the many wolves and devours the souls of the unwitting.

Wright does not preach…Wright brainwashes. Barak Obama underwent ‘BRAINWASHING’ for 20 years as he claims “I know nothing.”

What else would you expect a brainwashed person to say? The sad thing is that people are flocking to this nut as if he were anything but a great storyteller!

Obama has surrounded himself with some very questionable people (Wright, Ayers, Michelle).  One has to wonder (and worry about) what role they would play in the White House should Obama get elected.

F**k the bullshit, posse deep and let’s run him down
Gots to be the first one to hit ya when we meet
Comin quickly up the streets, is the punk ass police
The first one jumped out and said, “Freeze!”
I popped him in his knees and shot him, punk.. please..
Cause cops should mind they business, when we rush
Now you’re pleadin like a bitch, cause you don’t know how to.. hush..
Now back to the smoker that robbed me
I tell you like Latifah, motherf**ker give me.. body..
One to the chest, another to his f**kin dome
Now the shit can rest, yo tell him to leave me the f**k alone
Two very bloody bodies on the streets
A nosey ass cop and a nigga that robbed from me
Run from your backup punk, how you figure?

Skooby is right.

Pilgrim is bypassing the achievements of Tupac’s career and life.

Firstly, Tupac is a self-made millionaire, he majored in English, took ballet, acted in high-school, contrast that with his mother being a crack-addict and a member of the Black Panthers and you produce a rapper who is original, uplifting, dark, and a definite “thug”

Tupac is one of the best rappers of his time, so of course the succeeding reverend has a legitimate perspective.  He’s a hero to a great deal of the black community.  Rev. Moss, however, is missing the bigger picture in seeing his people as constantly “oppressed”, and in adorning Tupac thus as a “prophet”.  To him, like Wright & Obama, there are Americans and Blacks, not just Americans.

“You can only be free when you cease to speak of freedom as a goal and a fulfilment” ~Gibran

Here are some of Tupac’s lyrics which I think reveal a better side of him.  They’re sensitive lyrics written by a “thug”:

I hear Brenda’s got a baby
But, Brenda’s barely got a brain
A damn shame
The girl can hardly spell her name
(That’s not our problem, that’s up to Brenda’s family)
Well let me show ya how it affects the whole community
Now Brenda really never knew her moms and her dad was a
junky
Went in death to his arms, it’s sad
Cause I bet Brenda doesn’t even know
Just cause your in the ghetto doesn’t mean ya can’t grow
But oh, that’s a thought, my own revelation

.....

I guess she thought she’d get away
Wouldn’t hear the cries
She didn’t realize
How much the the little baby had her eyes
Now the baby’s in the trash heep balling
Momma can’t help her, but it hurts to hear her calling
Brenda wants to run away
Momma say, you makin’ me lose pay, the social workers here
everyday
Now Brenda’s gotta make her own way
Can’t go to her family, they won’t let her stay
No money no babysitter, she couldn’t keep a job
She tried to sell crack, but end up getting robbed
So now what’s next, there ain’t nothing left to sell
So she sees sex as a way of leaving hell
It’s paying the rent, so she really can’t complain
Prostitute, found slain, and Brenda’s her name, she’s got a baby

Chief,

I don’t believe so.  To assume that her intent was just such a comparison is to give her far too much credit.

Her point was to posit Robertson and Falwell as analogous to Wright and Otis Moss, suggesting that because Falwell and Robertson are/were conservatives, that conservatives’ criticisms of Jeremiah Wright and Brother Otis are somehow invalid.

Its pretty much the same tedious moral equivalence argument/excuse that liberals are wont to fall back on when they have nothing pertinent to say.

Tupac did indeed have some VERY uplifting songs. Ghetto Gospel is one of them.
http://www.lyricstop.com/g/ghettogospel-2pac.html
Keep Your head up is another:
http://www.circularmoney.com/artistlyrics/tupac/tkyhu.html

His overall message was that the black community had to fix itself. And that the gang life was nothing but a ticket to the grave. His tactic to get this message out was later expounded on by DMX. “Look, these young brothers don’t wanna listen to some dude telling em about God, or personal responsibility. So we tell em where we came from. We rap about what they wanna hear. And then once we get em, we’re like ‘listen to this’. And I talk about Jesus. That’s the only way to reach these kids.” While neither man was/is perfect, they are a needed voice, a counter to the nonsense of the “stay black” movement that celebrates illigitimacy, illiteracy, and endless violence in the black community.

Demonizing him is silly.

Except no one has made him into a Saint, or even pretended he was one. But pointing out that the good that the guy did far outweighed whatever bad he did is important.

Pretending that he is a bad guy is worse than pretending he is a saint because he did more good than harm. The songs that are still played of his on the radio are either his harmless ones (California Love) or his good ones (Keep Your Head Up or on occasion Ghetto Gospel). If we can overlook the liberal background of Reagan, the socialist connections of King, and the facist background of JFK…we can certainly forgive the human failings of Tupac.
